I found three tokens recently for a quarter each in a junk box and was wondering if anyone could properly identify this one? "Good For 5 Cents In Trade" is obvious but the DDDDD is what is stopping me from finding anything else out about it. Brass and about the size of a nickel. Possibly a clue in the fancy 5? Thanks all.
I suspect the 'Good for 5¢ in Trade' is a generic token and the D's were hand punch onto the blank side. It may be next to imposable to acquire an attribution. I would guess its about 75 - 100 years old.
I certainly would not impose it on anyone, unless they paid....5 cents. Don't hit me. It may be impossible for me to recover.
Yep; it's my establishment. We meet once a year on Feb 30th and let each person redeem the tokens for double the good for value.
That sounds as reasonable of a guess as I think we will get. I'd also suspect the punches were made well after the token and likely by a different source (maybe someone was just testing their "d" punch).
