I didn't know the late Romans knew about the Loch Ness monster! I am primarily a greek and medieval collector, but I have recently started expanding into some Roman. I purchased a lot of late Roman bronze coins. I came across this one and immediately though, that's the Loch Ness monster! It isn't in the best condition, as you can tell from the photos. Just something interesting to hopefully put a smile on your face. Let me know if you know anything about the coin. 14.7mm 2.57g.
Looks like this type, very likely a contemporary imitation: http://www.tesorillo.com/aes/042/042i.htm
Looks like a late Roman «soldier dragging captive» type? https://www.google.no/search?q=Vale...HfsmBDAQ_AUoAXoECAIQAQ&biw=1024&bih=666&dpr=2
At first I thought it could have been the fallen horseman type but now I for sure see the soldier and captive. I also think I can just make out a couple letters in Honorius.
Meanwhile, welcome to the forum, @VikingCoin! Medieval people are relatively thin on the ground here. I for one am enjoying the anticipation of what you might post! PS Greek is fine too, I guess. (There were at least trace elements of irony there. Promise!)
