It would be nice if we could get a well done portraits series of the Great Native American Chiefs on some coinage series as opposed to just the buffalo nickel design.
My vote for the 1st Chief $50.00 bill is:

Chief Seattle(an Anglicization of Si'ahl), ((Lushootseed pronunciation: [siʔaɬ],[1] (c. 1780 - June 7, 1866), was a Dkhw’Duw’Absh (Duwamish) chief,[2] also known as Sealth, Seathle, Seathl, or See-ahth, and a leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish Native American tribes in what is now the U.S. state of Washington.

I'm not in favor of exchanging one myth (honest politicians) for another myth (noble Indians).

Personally, I would like to see MLK Jr on the $50. I see ntohing wrong putting a 20th Century figure on a bill. Yeah, Grant was a good General, but he was a lousy President, and his portrait is of him as a President, not a General. Plus, I feel Lincoln already symbolizes the Civil War.

Of all the bills, Jackson should be the first to go as well. He was against any kind of national bank, and revoked the Charter of the 2nd Bank of the US. You know he would be against the Federal Reserve. I would probably replace Jackson with one of the Roosevelts. Maybe FDR and then put Liberty on the dime?

I also think it's time to take JFK off the half dollar, that would be a good spot for Reagan.

I don't agree with everything you said. But I do agree that we already pay plenty of homage to JFK, airports, libraries, you name it. Let's give some of the other presidents more recognition: Wilson, T Roosevelt, FDR.

MLK Jr. is a very interesting and note-worthy idea.

I quite like this idea for several reasons regarding freedom and liberty and upholding the ideals of human rights. I am not bothered by his religious background but I wonder if there would be those who oppose his likeness on circulating coin or currency regarding his being a Reverend.

Does anyone know if there have been any official proposals for MLK Jr. on circulating coin or currency in the past or presently?

I guess this post is going on so - While I'll be the first to not want Reagan on anything, (glad I got it in again), A. Jackson was as big of a 1st class $#B from my great state as A. Johnson was dumb.
Problem with Johnson was he could not even hardly read but at least he was a democrat albeit very crude.

Jackson on the other hand was just plain mean and hateful. He would rather fight than eat and hated everyone who slighted him in the very least. He, like Johnson did not even listen to good advice if paid for and in his best interest!

    I'll tell you'all a true story about A. Jackson.

About 20 miles from here is a little town called Bean Station and at Bean Station there was a tavern called of course Bean Station Tavern.
It was a historical site because it was on the main traveling route form Washinton to Texas. It was also the site of a Civil War battle but long before that,
One night while on the road A. Jackson arrived at Bean Sation Tavern weary from travel and very drunk. He was told the Inn was full and he said "I don"t give a Good G*& D*$&, I'm gonna drink a little more then I will aquire a bed"! So he got drunker and then went upstairs where several were slepping and said, "someone give me thier bed or I will just take it from you"! Of cource all this said with much more descriptive language than this. No one got up because at first they had no idea who this idiot was so Jackson threw a man out of his bed layed down on that bed and dared the poor fellow to do anything about it. After the poor fellow was fully awake and it dawned on him who this crazy man was, with the innkepper hollering the man ran out of the front door never to return again. All the other patrons slept with one eye open that night.
Jackson then fell asleep, woke up in the morning, never said a word of apoligy or regret and traveled on his way.

All this is true and with most everything I have ever heard about Andy Jackson he was one tough customer and very mean spirited. Probably just the type you would want on your side in a fight but heaven help you if he was on the other side!

Thanks everyone for the stories, ideas, insights and general posts in this thread.

I think this has been a very stimulating thread based on the news this week. This story was all over the mainstream media too and it's great to have so much attention to our hobby or our businesses.

I've read a lot of great opinions expressed in this thread and it's managed to remain civil by many outstanding CT'ers thus far.

    Thanks everyone. :smile

If MLK then RFK too. I agree too with switching JFK w/Reagan on the 1/2. Or if the keep JFK on the 1/2 obverse they can put Marilyn Monroe's famous photo of her skirt catching air on the reverse. Ha ha ha.

Kudos to you bhp3rd! I love this story! I love reading stuff like this about who the Presidents were like as people. You won't find this information in history books or official sites though.

What about putting Reagan on a $2 coin? Grant can stay on the $50 and we get a $2 coin.
