Enjoy this cud and doubled die all on one coin! Cud listed on cudsoncoins as CU-1c-2021-03R. Doubled die is unlisted atm. Extra thickness on date the first 2&0. Seen on the curves of the 2 and the bottom curve extra thick.
I realize and also been dealing with health issues recently too with wife. think it’s time the torch is passed. I know a few people have been chatting about it but nothing major is in place yet.
@Gorham_Collector Great clear, sharp, properly-lighted photos--makes it easy to appreciate and provide commentary what you are describing. IMO no doubt about the CUD attribution, but I only see MD (and prominent, at that) for the parts of the relief that you are focusing on.
Yea I see where you say md on the date to the left of right of the numbers. Yea that’s just a bit of lighting and glare md would be even clearer to see steps shelf like ofc. The shield cents extra thickness for doubled dies is what u want to focus on the most notching comes second. here’s md on a 2019 shield cent and 2018 date. Compare to my pics of the 2021 it’s a big difference.
My opinion is based on the Single Squeeze Process that was used from the 1995/1996 time frame, which would make it almost impossible to have a Doubled Master or Working Die. Of course, with human error and inspection oversight it may have been possible to have the Obverse Die rotate sightly in its clamp during the Squeezing Process. It is also possible--although extremely unlikely--that the Press struck the Planchet twice and it had rotated slightly after the first strike. No harm in submitting it to John Wexler as the Cud will get attributed anyway--I would--good luck to you!
Appreciate it I’ve got some older date doubled dies to send in as well 2014, 2017 etc some years that haven’t been updated in awhile should be some good listings
I also collect Shield Cent varieties . Whatever you do, do not send these to coneca . Why ? They will not get listed, no meat on the bone, or to minor to list . Which is a good thing .
Here's a very minor variety I found . Coneca will never add this to their variety list . No meat on the bone . Only thing doubled is the " 9 " in the date, and parts of LIBERTY . I only took a image of the date .
For anyone that think with the single squeeze hubbing, that master dies can't be doubled, you better think again ..
Yea they only take major extreme doubled dies and some even at that they don’t take I’ve heard it happen.
I work the coneca table at all the local shows And I tell everybody if it's too minor, don't send it to coneca . Some listened and some don't .
