Jamericon, you make some nice points. Regardless of whether or not one agrees with the comparisons that have been shown and their validity, Jamericon's point is quite on-point I believe.

In coins, there's a term called "sliders". These are borderline coins that, for instance, could go AU-58 or low to mid 60's. I would think the same type of circumstance occurs in notes as well. Often times, the difference between maybe an AU-58 and MS-63 might be much closer than the difference between an MS-61 and MS-63. Much of the time, the defining factor is wear, and whether or not something has actual wear is often very difficult to tell. I would think the same type of concept applies here. With notes, it may be folds or whatever.

    Thoughts?

I have never heard that word in regards to currency! And personally
Have a problem with it here in this circumstance a A/U 58 will have some
Light folding issues at the center and corners a 64 would not exhibit
Any of these!! Only some margins!! Heres the official Definition:

Very Choice Uncirculated- 64 A bright note thats slightly below gem
Quality margins and colors are above
Average a note that may have slight
    Centering problems.

There,s the exact definition right out of the currency dealer newsletter
Boy,s and Girls, An A/U 58 is not new!! Its about new, And if your confused
    About the difference......................:rolling::hammer:

Unfortunately, you are failing to comprehend anything I have been saying.
Yes, the definition of the two grades is distinct, but determining this difference can, at times, be subjective.

And because none of us have seen the note in question, this argument is futile.

    Do you buy raw notes?

Good thoughts and lively discussion. :D I've never heard that term as applied to currency either, just throwing it out as an idea... and sometimes a very light fold is tough to distinguish and two people may see different things.

As has been pointed out, grading is subjective, so there will always be some variation.

Also, I understand grading and how to do it fairly well in the coin realm (not necessarily currency... yet ;)). However, something that's always bothered me is the term "uncirculated". In the coin world (and currency I'm guessing), that term means something very different than what it means in the real world. Uncirculated to me means something that has not entered circulation. Well, there are a lot of coins graded MS or "Uncirculated" that have been out in circulation, if for just a bit.

One last thought... I like reputable TPGs and like my coins and notes slabbed. I don't want to waste money and effort on having things re-graded. So, if I don't agree with the grade on the holder, I just pass and wait for the next one until I find one I like. For the things I can afford to collect, there will always be a next one. :thumb:

We could argue this fact until the cows come home!! I do comprehend
What your saying, But your not listening to what iam saying!

The grading standards are very clear, They just need to be followed
By the grader, I cant see an A/U note being confused for a gem note
By a professional grader, Who does this day in and day out!!

And yes i do have several hundred raw notes, But now only collect
And sell PCGS Investment quality Mpc

Problem (imho) with TPG is that there are WAY too many different grades that can be assigned to a note. Last time I checked it was in excess of 40. I would think that a dozen different grades would be more than enough for most people.

Case wasn't thrown out RickieB. Trial scheduled for April.

    Payton:
In a post made by Lipka, he mentions that 2 were thrown out.

It went some thing like this..A judge in Courts in New Jersy threw Cavo out of 2 cases for mistating facts and mistating his interest....
The libel and defamation suits are what remain.

Lipka also posted the Court documents.
    What a mess..huh??

    RickieB,

They actually dismissed Cavo from involvement in the suit since he has not personally been well...........fallen victim of the charges. The actual individuals charging they were defrauded are still holding together. Trial set for 4-12-10.

Yeah MPCusa. You couldn't pay me enought to ruin my collection by having CGX grade them. My point though is the OWNER selling gift certificates on ebay. Talk about classless! Last time I checked, gift certs were given away in appreciation or as an award of some type. Now if you were awarded a CGX gift certificate........who wouldn't try to sell it! You certainly would not want to redeem it!

    Hi phubanks,

You will notice that many members will avoid this thread like the plague due to the sensitive nature.

To answer your question just google the TPG in question and take some time to read "the show". Shady would be an understatement.

Payton, I not up to speed on this litigation, but as far as CGX has the old owner sold & are the new owners & employees (top to bottom) all new including the graders?
If that is the case why not let the new owners prove themself before condeming the company, assuming this is the case, correct me if I am wrong. I am not defending CGX but are they really a NEW Grading Co or just a change on the same old staff of shaddow owners ?

Payton, what is so sensitive about this topic?

Does CGA have hit-men? Will i get a knock on my door by a delivery guy in a few minutes and get gunned down?

I really don't understand what everyone is so scared about. Someone enlighten me please!
