How do you think it was made?

Did you look up the definition of a "cud" on the internet? I hope you do. Then you will know it is not.

 

I would guess the damage was done with a punch of some type.

It’s damaged alright but yes, it is interesting.

 

I'm tempted to offer a suggestion, but I like the angle @Insider. I was trying this approach the other day to see if one of our new enthusiasts would push the discussion further by offering what and why something looked different.

Looks like a plated one I showed once. That yellow tone. But hey I could be incorrect. Interesting if it is something.

 

Well I do know if it were a doubled ear and someone did that, would have been a loss.

 

Take a small pipe with a small opening. Put one end against the Cent and hit the other end. It will make the circular pattern you see. The Force flattened the copper on the Reverse side.

Not a Cud nor a mint error of any kind.

I don't understand why certain members just can't give straightforward answers!

 

1) Place the cent on a metal surface 2) place a piece of metal pipe end down on the cent 3) WHACK

It's very easy to understand. We have two basic ways to go about helping folks here.

Method one:

It's a "penny" spend it.
PMD (whatever that means to the OP).
I don't know but I'm posting just to post and let you know that I don't know what you have either?

Method two:

Leads the OP to an answer or very close to it. It gets them to think for themselves and tells them possible places to look for the answer. When taught in this way - by questions - most folks actually learn something AND RETAIN it because they traveled the "path to discovery for themselves."

While you use method one ALL THE TIME - short, sweet, bye-bye; at least you often take the time as you did here to duplicate the "mystery coin."
