Yes, it does (look burnished), and the specified composition is 'colorized' rather than the customary 'proof' or 'uncirculated'. Yet it shares everything else with the proof dollar coin including being minted at West Point, so I'm inclined to believe it's the same (proof) coin with a splash of purple.

Let us know when you see it in hand!

I have a complete set of modern commemoratives up to the end of 2018.The junk kept coming and getting more expensive. So, I just stopped all sets and all enrollments.

I just don't get why they didn't wait another ten years for this commemorative!
The Purple Heart's origin was 240 years ago in 1782 as the Badge of Military Merit.
Ninety years ago, in 1932, it was renamed the Purple Heart, to be awarded for meritorious or valorous service in the US Army.
In another ten years it will be the 250th anniversary of the Badge of Military Merit and the 50th anniversary of the Purple Heart.
I think they jumped the gun on this one. No pun intended.

This. I have no love for gimmick coins (colorized, non-flat, non-round, smell-enhanced, motorized) -- but this one spot of this one color is a pretty powerful effect.

People find coins of all “color” to collect. Beauty is in the eye of the holder ;-)

I was going though my rather long list of modern commemorative silver dollars to see about selling them. Looking at the Grey Sheet, it looks like most of them sell for about melt, even if you have the box and papers in good shape, which I do.

I am done with most of the modern commemoratives. I used to keep up with them, and I like the designs of some, even though they have little numismatic value. Still the collector value seems to go to zilch the older they get.

When you are hot you're hot; when you are not you're not. Sort of covers most recent US Mint releases.

Way too many have made the sacrifice for the real thing. The coin is an honored reminder of that sacrifice. Thanks to all our heroes that have served, God bless!

If any coin deserved colorization, that would be a good one, but I'll pass.

I bought the clad Half Dollar Purple Heart, the Silver Proof Dollar Purple Heart, and the gold "Purple Heart on the day they were released. They immediately went to "Back-Ordered" as was my One-Quarter Gold Coin and One Ounce Gold Coin. The gold coins showed "Processing" for several days and my VISA was charged. A few days later, the Quarter Ounce Gold Coin was withdrawn and showed "Backordered" and two days later, the One Ounce Gold Coin was withdrawn and showed "Backordered." I ordered the Purple Heart coins and the Gold coins on the day they were ordered. There was a note that the Purple Heart coins would be released a couple months later.

    I'm with you!
If you appreciate those that served and sacrificed, the coin is worth much more than the melt value! This is one I will keep. Remember there is a price for our freedom.

I wouldnt call them gimmicks, no worries if you dont like them. Theres been many that have enhanced the subject, unfortunately they just arent from the US mint generally. I would have loved for this one to be some of there best work but in my opinion it fell sort on half of it unfortunately

Ya never know. That's what's so great about the hobby! They could double in price.
For green18 and all who purchased one I hope they do!

Welp, I bought one of these colorized beauties and waiting to receive it. Agreed value of modern commemoratives is zilch but this particular coin has a limit of 25,000 pieces if I'm not mistaken. So hopefully it will hold it's value and grow in value over time. Of course they are selling for more than double us mint price on the bay
