I picked up a scale weight in CNG e511. It is different than others I have seen. It looks like an equal arm balance weight that was converted to a hanging weight. The following description is from CNG, but with a few changes. BYZANTINE. Bronze octagonal weight. Circa 900-1200 AD. Obv - On the face, an inscription in Greek: BAΛAHTIOXOV (BAΞΛANTIOXOY ??) around a central *. Notes: I am not sure what is between A and Λ. Some Seleucid coins used V in place of Y. I think the H between A & T could be a N. Rev - Marked with “X” four times at the ends of a cross (?). The cross is formed with four Vs projecting from a corner to the corner directly across from it. Each V has a dot. Surmounted by an attached loop and a twisted ring for suspension. Some deposits. (I do not know of a weight with 40 units (XXXX) and a weight of 21 grams.) Intact. Edge - three drill points per side. Otherwise the edges are flat. The weight of the piece represents a debased Uncia weight from the late Eastern Empire (with debasement at about 80% of the official weight.). 21.14 g, the hanging ring weighs 2.9 grams 25 mm Antiochos X Eusebes, Seleucid King issued the following weight - to the left of the anchor is - BAΣIΛEΩΣ ANTIOΧOY
