Ok, two things here. Guess the grade, and guess the auction selling price, as of recent. I do not own the coin—I did back in 2015, and it has sold a couple of times. No looking up sales, please! Try to guess, and feel free to comment. Selling price recently, not in 2015–that I will reveal.
Looks like an NGC holder so I'm sure it got a star..... MS-64* As far as price goes I don't have a guess. Prices could be drastically different depending on the venue.
I don't see it going lower than 65. So I'll call it Ms65* I don't know about the sale price. When I've watched auctions for toners like these, I never stick around to see the final bid because they go way far beyond what I'd be willing to pay. I just won't pay as much for toning as others, but to each their own.
Amazing toning, even if she appears to have taken one to the temple.. PS. I usually comment w/o grading b/c I'm generally useless at grading.
I'll not guess as I bid on this coin the last few times it came up for auction. I liked it and won't say much more so I don't give out too many clues.
Will reveal tonight. Get your guesses in. This coin has a most interesting history, and illustrates the price growth in toned coins over the years.
Ok, the reveal, then the history. I owned this coin from 2011-2015. It was originally in a PCGS MS 64+ holder. I crossed it to NGC to get the star, that I knew it would get. When I bought it, I paid $329,which was a lot at that time. Sold it privately in Jan 2016 for $1459 to a private buyer. Lost track of the coin for a while. Found out that it sold for $2800 in 2018. Now found out that it sold twice this year. January 2022, and Feb 22, 2022. Auction results below: Then, a month later: In my impression, it was, and is a beautiful coin, as many Aurora pedigrees are. However, $3750 to over $6,000 in a month? While a top level toned coin, I feel that the grade should limit the price somewhat. I see it more as a $3000 coin in today’s market, as an accurately graded MS 64-64+
