I acquired another 1942-D. Here is its color for comparison. I've got to give it an acetone rinse to see if the spotting comes off the reverse.

I made a strategic error, but it was cheap. I put in multiple low bids on the 42-D, 44-D, and 45-D that I thought I could upgrade a little. Pretty much I won them all, so I got two 42's, two 44's and a 45. All together it totaled under $30, so it's cheaper than buying any one of them in a slab.

This is the second 1942-D, which is replacing the one in my album.

Here’s that section of the album with the upgrade. There’s a little distortion because I had to take the picture at an angle to get some of the luster. Even so, I can’t capture what I see for all six coins at once.

I had this 1945-D. I don't know why I thought I needed an upgrade. I guess it was the three tiny carbon spots on the back.

I got this one from eBay under $10.

I lucked out. The attractive rim toning and lack of carbons spots gives this one the edge over the original. It's in the album now.

1917S before and after 1 treatment of VC. 1st coin I have treated. Thank you @BadThad for getting your product back on the shelves! It gets the gunk out of the letters and date. Maybe a little more work but I also know not to try and do too much. DSCN3806~3.JPG DSCN3803~3.JPG DSCN3844~2.JPG DSCN3845~2.JPG
