Take this Trime, beautiful isn't it. Nice look, toning not bad, strike ok, about an XF-45/AU-50 coin, nice all around. Except it is FAKE! Oh yeah, if the date doesn't set you off (it is diagnostically incorrect, the numbers should be thicker and the flag on the 1 has a different slope and the 7 should have an obvious hump in the middle.), then the weight should be a dead giveaway 1.05g. The correct wieght for the later years of trimes are .75 grams. I'd give it some leeway, but not that much. The planchet is much too thick and the coin comes in at 14.52 mm, way out of tolerances for the series as well. These dang chinese fakes are going to be the end of the hobby as a hobbiest. It may get to the point where everyone has to be an absolute expert in every series just to buy a nice coin. Blech.
bq: a future note, if typing out / copying code, you don't need the href tags on CT, just enclose image urls with: bracket img bracket and close with bracket /img bracket These brackets [ ] :thumb: The date alone screamed fake stay away for me.
Ya im trying to focus on one thing and am no expert at all, but i might one day venture out to buy a nice coin like that above and have no idea its fake at all It will kill hobbiest and being one my self my wallet/value of collection would die with me
True, I have a nice collection of fakes. practically any coin you name it, I have seen a fake or have a fake for it. Trimesincluded. I had one worse where the E in america was instead an A lol Oh well let them chinses try theyre wasting their time and money...
