Picked this up when going to a coin show for the first time in a couple years. It feels odd to call a modern coin electrum, but it's only 0.298 gold mixed with silver. Price was under $100, but not by much. Looking around online, it's hard to find them much cheaper anyway. Japan 2 shu kin Tempo, 1832-58, 0.298 Au And for comparison, here's a silver 1 shu gin. (Old purchase)
Here's my Japanese trifecta! Gold Meiji 2 BU-BAN-KIN, EDO (1868 - 1869), 3.08g. Silver Ansei 1 SHU-GIN Isshu Gin, EDO (1853 - 1865), 2g. Bronze 100 Mon "Tenpotsūhō", 1835-1870.
Those AV Shu/ BU/ 2 BU/ KOBANS are hard to get in FDC. Here is my Temp era AV BU 1837-50 MS-65 have a AV 2 BU Manen era 1850-67 in MS-64
Nice scans, panzerman and Eidolon. Here are mine. I bought them from Liberty Coin Service in East Lansing. I never have been an active collector, but I do like the history that tests and proves the theories of economics. I found some facts online at the Smithsonian and other sources. Liberty dates these to 1832-1858 and gives the weights as 0.015 oz AGW 0.037 oz ASW DESCRIPTION (BRIEF) One (1) 2 shu kin coin Japan, 1830 - 1846 Obverse Image: Kiri crests top, denomination at the center.
