wow! it looks like someone opened grandpa's proof set.I'd be going back to where you got it and try to get the quarter and the half dollar.
The rims don’t look like proof, nor does the surface. Looks like a Mint set dime that grandpa passed onto an heir. Strictly an opinion, just how it looks.
Definitely not a proof. It has a Denver mint mark. 1964 US proof coins have no mint mark. And this coin doesn’t have the proof luster.
I thought I heard that the Great American Coin Hunt was either underway or getting underway again soon. Hopefully we will see a number of old coins getting reintroduced into circulation again.
I had not heard anything about a new Hunt, but I have released over 600+ Lincolns in the past 3 months…dated 1959-1990, is that old enough? And about 50 Roosevelts, from 1985 to 2013…I’ll have some State Quarters ready for circulation in about 2 weeks…Spark
Coin Week is coming up. April 17-23, but there hasn't been a consensus on releasing coins and currency, as in the past.
My brother, when he was working weekend nights at the WAWA, used to get a good number of silver coins from drunk high school kids who'd swiped all the change they could from their parents dresser drawers before stepping out for the night. He said they sounded more 'toney' when they hit the counter. He switched them for regular change he had in his pocket and in so doing, accumulated a modest hoard of silver Washingtons and Rosies; nothing too spectacular but respectable. That might be where your silver came from, Silverpop; old coins that went from pocket-to-sock drawer-to-WAWA for a coffee and a package of Twinkies!
I've got a 58p Washington quarter i found in my wife's car in her change about a month ago. She has no idea where she got it.
