    Hi everyone,

I’m visiting the USA soon and would like to acquire some Golden Eagles for my collection. I’m only interested in pre 1933 coins and I prefer them non graded but in good condition (don’t like those grading boxes).

Can anyone recommend a good coin shop in Miami, with a decent selection at a fair price?

Ideally I’d order from APMEX (their prices are fantastic compared to similar European dealers) but since I’m staying at a hotel I don’t feel comfortable ordering to there, nor I want to use UPS store pickup or anything as that would invalidate any insurance…

Sorry if I got the name wrong - I mean pre 1933 American gold coins, from all sizes really - I’d like $1, $2.5 all the way up to $20 to add to my collection!

There should be lots of places to buy those...especially the Double Eagles ($20).

Are you buying these coins as bullion subsitutes or are you willing to pay a numismatic premium ?

You should be able to find a place that APMEX or others can deliver to. Even the hotel might work.

Welcome to CT. If you are coming to Miami, you can just Google shops that carry what you want and maybe even see their inventory online. Good luck and bon voyage mes ami.

I'm an individual who constantly buys certified Pre-1933 U.S. Gold coins throughout the country.

I believe an investigation prior to your visit is warranted, with the Caveat that your criteria (i.e. Good/Selection/Fair) is almost non-existent.

The market for those coins of any denomination/grade currently is very volatile, and inventory can change rapidly.

I watch new listings/selections around the country, and if 2 of your criteria exist, I'm a buyer.!

I strongly recommend you Google Miami coin shops in advance, and view their on-line selections.

I believe you'll bes surprised in the limited offerings.

I would/do use eBay as a "bench-mark", but many of their offerings have "problems"!

Bullion substitutes basically. They don’t need to be rare nor graded but I’d like to have them in decent condition. I can pay a numismatic premium as long as it’s not excessive (let’s say not more than 50% of the bullion value).

I’m only one week in Miami so it’s a bit too risky to deliver to the hotel, the order might be delayed…

I googled a few shops, but I’m only in Miami / USA for a short time, hence why I’m asking for recommendations!

Just Google the coin shops and ask them. You never know what might come in the door before you get there.

The quoted statement for your post is believed quite inaccurate.

Current selections for Double Eagles, and generally all pre-1933 Gold coins, is quite limited.

A very-prominent B&M dealer had 1 coin in his entire inventory for which I had a marginal interest, a generic mid-20s date in MS62 grade, with ~100% premium over melt.

He knew I would probably purchase the coin, as I had many times before from him, after brief market availability investigation.

He sold the coin and posted a Ha-Ha note on his site when I
returned to purchase. He had previously chastised me for purchasing his better coins.

He often stalled in accepting my purchase order, and lost my payment, so I expected what happened.

As one of many active buyers for the coins you desire, I strongly suggest you focus on locating a dealer with the greatest selection, having an "open-mind".

I believe you may be amazed at the limitations of your desires.

    JMHO, Good Luck!

I’m not saying you’re incorrect (I have zero knowledge of the US market) but APMEX and other online dealers seem to have plenty in stock?

I'm fallible, and may be uninformed again, so I perused the Apmex site to purchase coins I constantly Google on our internet.

I believe they should be selling the most common/"inexpensive" 1908, 1924, etc. in their "Random" sales offerings, Thus:
$20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle BU (Random Year)
    Out of Stock

    I may have improperly searched!
