This is a key date and the last I need for my Whitman bookshelf album. Looking for opinions on condition and wether or not this toning looks original. Thanks for any and all advice. Tom Canada: 1948 Fifty Cents- Scarce Key Date Extra Fine #H958 | eBay
I am not a Canadian specialist, but I'm not a fan of the color. I think that it may have been enhanced. The sharpness grade is there, but the color is odd uneven on the high points. I don't know what these coins are worth in that grade. If the price is low enough, it might be a good deal, but it's not worth the catalog price.
Thanks for the input John. The price for this date is all over the place, even in the same grade. This is the lowest so far and is a new listing. I'm good with the grade as mine is a working mans collection.
Don't. It looks like the other 2 that have been cleaned, one very harshly, and then juiced to hide the condition. The juicing was pretty bad and done more than once. I realize budgets, but buy the ANACS 45. I know, $90 more, but safe is safe. If you can't do that, study the ANACS piece, and search around for the same type of appearance. I also have a suspicion the piece you are considering has been repaired, and not well. A coin doctor would do a much better job.
Appreciate the insight charley. I' don't have any toned coins in this set so it has been hard to have anything to compare to. I can go higher and will check out others. Thanks so much.
I would personally avoid that particular seller out of principle. Cheated me out of a five-figure coin I won from him via auction, lied about why he wasn't sending it to me, and then acted completely unprofessionally when I requested he send me the coin I won and paid for.
I pulled the trigger on the ANACS coin. I used the zoom feature and it looked really nice. Thanks again.
