Yes it is. Western part of Russia is a Eastern part of Europe.

 

This was a great thread and a pleasure to read. I don't have any photos of occupation coins to share. How about this coin which was imported & used during the occupation of what is now Bermuda and the USA?

 

I have been enjoying your posts Siberian Man. The history that you include in these posts is fascinating. And the history behind some of these world coins has been what is drawing my interest to them.

 

Siberian Man...another nice batch of coins. I recognized some of them from my own collection sinse I've been trying to collect WWII occupation coins, etc. So far I don't know much about them and your post was very informative and taught me about some of my own. Thanks again! I wanted to ask you though if you know of a good site that concentrates on identifying coins like this?..I mean those from WWII era? Thanks either way!

I am sorry, Sir, but I don"t know USA coin site about occupation coins.

 

Albania. Italian occupation. 0,20 lek 1939, stainless steel. Vittorio-Emmanuele III.

 

During the WW II Serbia was occupied by fascist forces (Germany and it"s allies). Serbian people struggled against fascist during all occupation (1941-1945).
It was a hard struggle! German and Italian soldiers prosecuted punitive operations against Serbian partisans and not-armed people.
But beside German & Italian soldiers Serbian people suffered from Croatian fascists.
It was terrible struggle: Croatians killed Serbian in concentration camp of Jasenowaz. It is hard to believe, but Croatian rulers declared the competition for invention of knife for murder of Serbians... And that knife was invented! "Serborez" ("Serbian Cuter"). Croatian fascists in Jasenowaz arranged the competitions... Terrible competition...: who can to kill more Serbian prisoners!
Croatian fascists to cuted Serbian prisoners (throats and stomachs).
"Best" Croatian fascist"s "champion" cuted 1369 Serbian prisoners during one night!
It was Inhuman and Terrible war...

I really like this one, it's a very nice specimen with plenty of errors. On the one side (reverse?) it says "Hapa" which in Japanese is slang for a person who is half Japanese and half Anglo. I'm not saying that's an error or any connection to Japan, I'm just sayin'. :thumb:

 

No. It is not "HAPA". It is - "ПАРА" (slavonic letters). It"s resound like "PARA".

 

Excellent thread! My world coin collection pretty much stops after 1950, so Axis and Allied occupation coins are heavily represented.

If anyone has nice examples of Bohemia-Moravia coinage, post it! Unfortunately mine are in terrible shape and I'm even worse at taking pictures.

Here is a couple of interesting coins. 10 & 20 franken 1954. Saarland. It was a German territory under the French occupation.

 

Those I have too. There were four denominations; these two and also 50 and 100 franken.

Unlike the other parts of Germany that were under allied occupation after WW2, Saarland was a separate territory with a different currency. Initially they had the Saar-Mark, then (as from Nov-1947) the French franc. Later Saarland got its own coins - those four types - which had the same specifications (size, composition, etc.) as their French counterparts. Saarland joined the Federal Republic on 1-1-1957, but the Deutsche Mark did not become legal tender in that state until July 1959 ...
