Why did the 2021 D shoot up so high in value?

    NGC census.jpg

The Ds have proven to be the worst condition of the series so far according to NGCs latest census results, by far. 2 to 3x more MS69s compared to all others. I'm glad I bought my 70 D a while back for the set. Mine from the mint were not 70s.

Now, 19,438 isn't rare but demand is likely high. I was at a show this weekend and saw a 2021 Peace MS70 with a $360 price tag on it. Is that "right" I don't know but that's what a dealer wanted for it. If someone offered 360 a piece for mine I wouldn't sell. I guess people will decide in the end what they're willing to take for them.

I sold my spare D MS70 Morgan on the PCGS forums for exactly $360 so it’s funny you mention that number xD.

If one of my spare Peace Dollars had gotten 70 I would’ve gladly sold that for $360 too.

But not the one from my personal set. Thank goodness I got at least 1x 70 of the Peace Dollars. It would’ve been really annoying to send 3 in and get all 69s back and having to go buy one.

My buddy sold his 3 D 70’s for $500 ea, off Ebay a few weeks ago. They were classic Flag PCGS FS. I’m a bit surprised the spread for the FDOI’s.

    He got a good deal!

Unfortunately for me it’s the CC, O, P and S in 70 grade that are hard to get rid of. :/

I have 2x of each the CCs & S & P 2021 Morgans in PCGS MS70 First Strike slabs for sale & I have 1x O Morgan in MS70 FS for sale yet I’ve only gotten a few lowball offers.

But the D’s in MS70 sell like hotcakes!

Just send them to GC and be done with it. BST offers are often lowball ones

I was going to do that but then I figured I might as well just hold onto them instead of paying someone a fee to sell them for me.

I was hit with a sudden realization that I didn’t need the money from selling these so there is no rush and I should get the best price I can rather than trying to sell as quickly as I can.

Maybe I’ll get lucky and the prices for some of them will go up if I hold onto them for 40 years xD.

Actually I heard they’re continuing the series with 2022 Morgan’s so I wonder if demand will increase when the 2022s come out since people who buy the 2022s might not have the 2021s yet and will go buy them.

You're really paying not to have to deal with the hassle of problem buyers, or charge backs, or potential fraud.

Plus it doesnt make sense to sit and wait for months and months for enough real offers instead of just having them sold in a month or two for market prices.

They're just doing a proof, entirely different animal

The 2022's are on the mint schedule for the fall as a single San Francisco Morgan and Peace dollar proof.

and those bean freaks. They are, after all, only a grader for the grader and not the coin it's self. How could you possibly grade one looking through a hunk of plastic??

Those prices on the D are incredible. I bought an NGC graded 70 D at the end of December for $234. I had 3 of them. Was the only one I didn’t get any 70s on from the mint. I know another person personally that submitted 3 of them and no 70s.
That being said, it is surprising they’re going that much higher but that’s the one everybody needs for the full set. Glad I grabbed one early. Lol

The US Mint completely ticked me off the last time I tried to purchase a new release. I had one 75th Anniversary gold coin and one 75th Anniversary silver eagle in the cart (or shopping bag as they call it), and immediately tried to pay. I wasted a half hour trying and trying with no success. I wrote to the US Mint explaining what had happened. Here is their response:
"Once you add an item to your online shopping bag, inventory is not allocated to your order until you complete the checkout process. If the product sells out or becomes unavailable while the product is in your bag and your order is still pending, a coin will not be available when you subsequently attempt to complete the checkout process, as occurred in your case."
I'm done with the US Mint. They could sell $1 bills for 50cents and I'll pass.

Oh believe me I know what you mean!

I had a gold V75 in my bag and it refused to let me check out but by the time I finally got back around for a second try it was gone.

Fortunately I got a silver one but still I was pretty ticked off.

Sounds like I was very lucky that 2 of my 3 D’s ended up getting the 70.

Im not sure if there is any difference but mine are PCGS 70 not NGC like yours but I imagine both are equal.

It has a current bid of $609 with 6 days of bidding left.

That’s just absolutely crazy. I felt like selling my spare for $360 was a little bit greedy but $600+?!

    Crazy..

And to think, some people were really bent out of shape over the $85 issue price. Lol

The first day of issue, first strike designation is worthless to me on these. If someone wants to pay more for one plastic over the other with more writing on the label, more power to them.
