I've never seen anything quite like this before. The material is rolled up like a circular hay bail. I can look through the end and see light, it's literally rolled up. My guess is that it's a lamination peel that got pushed. Any other ideas?
IMHO it looks like an AWESOME lamination. Great find and hope it doesn't poke a hole through the flip. Nice find:thumb:
Thad, I think it is "At Mint Damage" in other words I think it happened right after minting while still at the mint's facility or being handled before final shipping. And please don't anybody come up with a new abbreviations such as "ATMD" (god help us with these abbrev, anyway), you know that's one of my pet-peeves! Your coin is so crisp and nice I think it happened during counting, or handling before it left the mint. It got stuck in something or mased, pulled by something or hit by something. I have found these before in bank wrapped rolls (not exactly as big as yours but), and it's as it is just so fresh, well you know what I'm talking about. When that nice I always thought "at the mint". I'll go with "At Mint Damage" but never ATMD or "Before it Left The Mint Damage" and not BFITLTM, I'm sure you understand! "These abbreviations are gonna be the death of me" or I'm getting to old for this stuff!
****Not to change Subject**** Acronyms in the US Army we had 5-10 catalogs/4-5in binders just for acronyms,1 of each division all type unit or weapon. I hope coins are don't get that intense:kewl:
Remember folks: it's only an acronym if you pronounce it. An example would be MAD. Otherwise it's an initialism, e.g., "BFITLTM." Try pronouncing that!
Wow, that's an error I never would have even imagined. That's really cool and those shots are awesome!
That has got to be a lamination. Nothing else I know of could possibly peal back and still leave some of the detail behind. i,e, the tail of the wheat. All kinds of things could have cause the lamination to roll up. BTW, those are some great pictures.
