Just got back from picking up a repaired bracelet, and while I was chatting with the jeweler a customer came in to show off his huge bargain - 20 PCGS MS69 1/2 ounce 2005 AGEs, that only cost him $567 apiece, with a PCGS slab box thrown in for free! The poor old guy (at least 5 years older than I am ) had responded to a newspaper ad, and the telephone pitchman told him that while the value could go up, it could never go down! My jeweler friend called his source, and told the guy that he could get the same coins retail for $260 each, which would still be well over 10% above spot. How do these guys sleep at night?
At one time or another we've all probably made purchases we lived to regret. But, to spend over $11,000 without (apparently) doing any research? Wow, that must have been one heck of a sales pitch.
Are there actually people older than you? Sadly, in a mansion, with their Ferrari parked in the garage, and their trophy wife next to them in the king sized bed.
Unfortunately, there are those out there who don't do their homework and fall for the pitchman's song and dance thinking their going to make big bucks someday. Then the poor jerk tries to sell the overpriced item only to find then that he has paid WAY TOO MUCH. It PAYS to educate yourself before buying, another mistake he made was buying from the paper. Mass media sales of collectables is almost always a scam, whether is TV, radio or the newspaper. SAD.....
that is really sad, but also a warning to all those scams out there. Older people are usually more suseptible to believe.... Too bad that older man couldnt file a complaint against the seller for false advertising...
