Hi these cents are a friend of mine and she thinks they are high dollar. She says the 1974 cent is a broad strike the 1927 was done at the mint she's not really educated like I am but then again I'm not educated like you guys and gals the 1909 I have no idea cuz you can't see the initials I don't want to clean the coin unless I was advised by an expert I told her that I thought the coin was no good because of the damage that's not to say somebody will buy it at a cheaper price my opinion only I will be showing her this post thank you all
Neither of these are "high dollar", the 1927 D in that condition might be 50 cents. I'm not sure about the 1974 though. If it was smashed in with a hammer, you would still see the rim and it would stick out, if it was clipped with some sort of pliers, you would see some metal squeeze. The only thing I can think of is it might have been sanded. Broad strike generally indicates off center, and this one is dead center, so I don't think it's broad struck either. In any case, the 1927 D is a nice old coin to have
Sorry to be repetitive, but both coins are damaged, and your friend is wrong. The 1974 is a spender and the 1927d is good for a filler but has not numismatic value with that kind of damage. Have her join the forum and get her some ejumacation. Had to do that.
1927 damage. 1974 could have been a clip, but without seeing GOOD photos of the coin and edge, it isn't possible to really tell. Good luck in telling her she isn't rich.
