I was looking thru some wheat cents last night and found this 1955 D. I think it's an RPM but I can't find any of the markers listed on Variety Vista. I think this is RPM 002, but I see where it might be 001, or maybe 012. The coin has some crud accumulated around the mint mark but I think you can see the second D under and slightly southwest of the top D. Comments and opinions are welcomed. I also saw in another post that Verdi-care is once again available. Do you think Verdi-care would remove the crud so the mint mark shows a bit clearer?
Hmm. It's hard to tell with that little bitty crud going on there. Can you clean up the area around the D or re-take Pics?
I'll try cleaning it up and then retake the photos. I thought maybe I'd hit on a coin in Stage A. In hindsight I guess it could be 007 (?) but that MM looks a little high too.
I looked for die markers for all three types but couldn't find any. Also thought maybe 007 but there aren't any die markers listed for it. I'll try to clean it up a little. Thanks for the reply.
WOW! Who knew what a little hot water, acetone, and a very light Q tip could accomplish. Posting fresh photos. The mint mark is clearer but I just don't detect and die markers.
I am still leaning towards 001. The arcing second D protruding at the bottom is what keeps catching my eye. Have you looked at Coppercoins?
You may be right. There seems to be a slight indication of the die scratch just below the T in LIBERTY is you look hard enough. I have not looked at Coppercoins. Wasn't aware of it, but will add it to my list of resources. Thanks for looking.
