Its a nice key date dmpl (91CC) but in a ICG holder, was wondering if people thought this would crossover into NGC or PCGS? https://www.ebay.com/itm/194893127479?hash=item2d60891f37:g:6GoAAOSwIuxiGROP
as a 64?no the surface of the coin is very questionable i would say 62 possibly details, for the DMPL not sure by those pictures seller is asking to much i would steer clear.
Sorta like the reverse, but those are incredibly crappy pics for a $3000 coin. Anyway I doubt it would cross over nicely.
You've apparently never seen coins in ICG slabs get upgraded by PCGS, and NGC. And yes, there have been many times that has happened. Would it happen this time ? Dunno, but that's because judging a DPML can't be done by looking at pics, it has to be done in hand. That said, I would agree that there have been more times for coins in ICG slabs to be downgraded by PCGS and or NGC than there have been those that crossed or upgraded. My point is this, it's a mistake to think that the only reason a given coin is in an ICG or an ANACS slab is because PCGS and NGC would never grade the coin the same, or even higher. A knowledgeable collector will judge the individual coin, not the plastic it's in. And by doing so he can often find highly desirable coins at comparably bargain prices.
A 100 dollar coin sure, a lowmid 4 figure coin and up the chances are those have been tried and failed considering the small crossover fee would substantially increase the sales price and make it significantly easier to sell. There's still a market for those, people just need to pay accordingly and not think theyre getting some great rip
As an experienced Morgan person, I would say no, it would not reslab as a 64DMPL by either PCGS, nor NGC.
Was gonna beat a dead horse on it but decided against it. I'd like it at uncertified money, not at PCGS MS64DMPL money. Maybe BU with no qualifiers money in order to gamble on a crossover, I'd like it even more at AU prices. Just seems overpriced based on the pictures, I don't think it would crossover to NGC or PCGS, because I think it would have already been done if it appeared it could in hand. I don't know if it loses the PL altogether, or even gets a grade knock. It's right at about top dollar for PCGS as it is for the grade and DMPL. I'd like it a whole lot better if someone else gambled on it to take the potential loss if it won't cross. More to lose than there is to gain on this one the way he has it pictured and priced. Just my 2 cents...
It's about half price for a PCGS 64 DMPL, the recent ones have been over 4k and theyve been over 3k for several years
One sold last night at GC for 4800. The last CAC one was well over 5k and would probably be even more right now. They don't come up for sale a whole lot. There's only like 62 of them in the population and probably 10-20 of those are duplicates from people trying for upgrades. Just kind of reinforces the point of why wouldnt you spend 100 bucks to possibly double the sales price
I see way too many marks on that dollar to grade it MS-64. It looks more like an MS-62. As for the DMPL designation, that does require a personal examination, and my view is that it's a crap shot. Given the lower level of preservation on the entire coin, I'd be include to say that your chances are not good.
No bids, with 2+ hours to go. It is an ugly coin, that is probably over graded. As Doug said, there are lots of attractive, undergraded coins in ICG holders. This 1891cc is NOT one of them.
