    Totals since July 2009

A few have asked so here are my totals for searching halves. My kids and I have now searched 106 boxes ($53,000). I do not have an exact count on the customer coins/rolls but I would guess maybe another $7000-$10,000 if you add up all the rolls found in banks.

    18 Walker Half Dollars
    18 Franklin Half Dollars
    51 1964 Kennedy Half Dollars
    452 1965-1969 Kennedy Half Dollars
    1 Washington Carver Commemorative
    1 Olympic Baseball Commemorative (perfect)

    So
    89 - 90% half dollars
    452 - 40% half dollars
    541 - Silver halves total

    Others:
    31 Proof halves
    161 Modern halves (2002-2009)

I found over half my total (278) in my first 25 boxes including 51 of the 90% halves. I have had 3 runs of double digit shutout boxes since the first 25. I attribute this to myself and two other searchers in the area cycling through mostly the same coins over and over since September.

Almost every box I search is a Brinks box with just a few String and Son's mixed in from time to time.

    best box 77 silver halves
2nd best box 33 silver halves
best non-box find: 1 customer roll with 14 silver halves including 2 Franklins and 2 1964
2nd best One teller saved 3 Franklins for me

My totals are decent but here in my part of the country we have not had near the success of others in finding Walkers and Franklins as I know some have found 50 or so in week.

    Any questions, let me know..

Aggiecollector, what state do you live in? In MI I have only found one Franklin and no walkers. Even 40% ers are getting to be slim pickins.

    Erin,
Great finds, lot of searching but it has paid off good for you. I have found most of my silver halves both 90% and 40% from rolls turned in at the local banks. The tellers watch for people turning in a large amount of rolls.
As you posted, getting to know the tellers and treating them good realy is the key to getting a good shot at the better coustomer rolls. Case in point, last year there was a man who had been saving lincoln cents since the early 60s, he did it just to see how many he could save. Now he rolls them and cashes in hundreds of dollars worth at a time. Some great finds in there, can't wait till he gets to the bottom of the container.

I just got done searching the box of cents that i got over the weekend. I'm gonna have to start recording my finds. Heres the breakdown of the box:

    32 wheats
    18 canadian
    1 Bermuda

I also filled about 10-12 holes in my folders.

We are near Houston. It seems like the Florida guys/gals seem to really find the good stuff in volume. I am guessing due to all the retirees living down there who have collected forever and cash in some from time to time to help their fixed income status.

I have about one and a half years of searching for silver halves. 104 walkers, 73 Franklins, 116 64's and 407 40%ers. 289 90% and 407 40%. Found a Franklin proof in a roll also.

The walkers and Franklins you get just amaze me!

I'm at 98 boxes, will post my stats after I hit a hundred in a couple days.

I wonder if anyone else does this when searching cent rolls, I take each roll and weigh it first, then I open them in order lightest to heaviest. Yesterday the first and lightest roll had the only two wheaties out of ten rolls, still found a few more s mints and a lot more 2009s.

I would bet that half dollar searchers could tell by weighing the roll wether or not there are any silver halves in the roll, since the silver halves weigh more than the clad. You could probably also tell wether nickel or dime rolls had silver by weighing the roll before opening it.

I have weighed a few rolls of cents to get a gauge for how many coppers would be in there. I did that about 8 times but then went back to just popping them open and looking. :)

Found 2 Wheaties today, my first in quite some time. Of course, I average only a couple of rolls of cents a day, if that.
