OK. I was hoping someone might be able to help me out here. I have a coin that I just won. I've been able to identify the city location as Bagis, in Lydia. This is what I have been able to identify so far on the reverse..and I hate Greek letters! ;-) ***LPOAOW**OY or ***APOLOW**OY All help is welcome. I've checked sixbid archive, wildwinds and CGN archives and can't find this reverse. There are several with a humped bull left but nothing close with the lettering.
Can you show us the obverse and give the size and weight? I see ...ΠοΛοΔ(unidentified letter, maybe Ω) οY... pretty much same as you already noted. I can't see what might be under the sandy patina.
Just out of curiosity, how do you know it's Bagis in Lydia if you can't read the legend? Quickly glancing at coins of Lydia, Bagis in ACSearch I don't see any similar legends (or any with similar bull standing right). It might help to show the obverse (and/or suggest any catalog reference numbers if you have any in mind) to make it easier to find other examples and compare their legends. You say you just won it -- how was it described / what references?
There is a Trajan coin from this city with the reverse ΕΠΙ ΑΠΟΛΟΔΩΡΟΥ. But please show us the obverse and size / weight.
Well, so much for my "certain it was Bagis." @Bob L. nailed it! Thank you! I did a search for humped bull in RPC...If you do the search you can see where I might have thought Bagis. The record above the Trajan that @Bob L. found is Bagis. That is where I started It is funny how you think you found something and go down that rabbit hole looking for then you hit a very similar design with the bull left. Earlier record in the search... The first letter I thought as smooshed so this is what I was "wanting to see". Thanks again to the members for your time and expertise!
