Need the experts help again. Sorry for the rough pics. Having a hard time taking pictures through cellophane. Maybe wishful thinking on my part (again), but seems like I am on a mission to find an error and every coin I pick up I think I see something! Having a great time learning from you guys and gals in the process though! Anyway, anybody see anything with these middle columns? They just look different to me. A couple look crooked, some fat, mostly at the bottom? If it looks like it's worth a closer look, I'll try to get some better pics. When I search coppercoins, nothing comes up so this is probably just another training mission. But, I just can't let it go until you guys tell me to.
I guess I need to go and find some "kindergarten" forum until I learn this stuff and can come back and hang with the "big boys". I must be an idiot.
Zzyzzyth, I see what you are talking about on the columns. The two directly to the right of Lincoln (Right from our view) Sometimes the decorative thin individual lines on the columns are a little off to the side of the column itself Some will start and break and start again giving the appearance of the column being fatter or thinner in different areas and even give the appearance of being curved. Quite normal in my experience. DO NOT GIVE UP there are plenty of errors out there to be found. New things are being found all the time and may not be on any web site or coin book yet. Example: NGC just certified a 2010 Zackery Taylor Dollar found in a roll of direct ship from the mint 2010 Native American Dollars. The error: Zackery Taylor Dollars were released in 2009 so ALL of them are supposed to have a 2009 Date. Shortly after this gentleman posted what he had found. Another gentleman on the same forum that roll searches direct ship dollars relized he saw two Zackery Taylor dollars in his shipment of 2010 Native American Dollars but just thought that they were normal one that got mixed in from last years run and did not check the dates and he spent them. Now there is one certified and a total of three known of these pieces two of them are out in circulation. The gentleman that discovered the Error Just happened to have one of those "This isn't right moments" and it was in NO book or ANY website. We all have them when we get involved in error and variety searching just be patient and do your research. And ask questions. At one time or another every member here was at the beginning of their collecting And most of all have fun Stewart
Those extra lines that you are talking about are normal. They are a part of the design and give the appearance of depth to those columns. You will see them on proof coins, SMS coins and well struck, circulation strike coins (except in cases where the hubs and dies were worn to begin with) Thanks, Bill
Bill, Thank you for your input on this. I was trying to describe to him how on circulation strikes the die wear of the decorative lines on the columns will give the appearance that the columns may at times look misshaped (wider at one end or another or curved) and that is quite normal. Sometimes I don't find the right words typing. But I can explain it if I am talking to someone. The filter between the brain and the fingertips gets clogged sometimes :computer: Thanks for your help Stewart
