I saw the coin show yesterday... and it was a bit funny to watch them sell these coins at way over value. Case in point... they were selling a $5 gold eagle slabbed for $349... 2009 or 10 if memory serves.

the coin wasn't junk by any stretch, but they were selling it for more than I can by 2 of these on ebay, slabbed! If you didn't want a slabbed coin, you could get 2 gold eagle $5 coins for much less this price (and still have a coins from the mint in UC condition, just not slabbed).

To me, there is no use in believing their hype about gold value, investing & such if you are paying 2 times what the coin is worth. there are plenty of online sources where this coin can be bought for about $144+/- unslabbed as bullion. On ebay, if you watch, you can buy them slabbed for $135+/-.. I bought several this last week in this price range.

I haven't been collecting for years, but

    A) the coins and sets they sell are way overpriced, and
    B) I get disgusted when they sell "defaced" coins like the gold-plated statehood quarters. They think adding gold-plating adds to the value. I think they have ruined a perfectly good coin.

All I have to say is they are up front about what they are selling, even if it is way the heck overpriced. Anyone who is thinking of purchasing from HSN should always see what the item is selling for elsewhere. Chances are it will be less. And for the love of God, do not buy any legal tender coin that is gold plated... especially if they mention how well gold has performed as an investment in the last ten years!

I think the only HSN coins that were a deal were the graded 09 cents they had.
