I'm going to call this one a FAKE! But, I'm far better a spotting an 09SVDB. But, before I point out the one KEY counterfeit marker lets see what others point out! If the general consensus is PHONY I'll post the link to it.
I'm eager to hear some answers. My honest opinion is that the D mintmark is not the correct font. Awaiting more answers.
You're correct! That same China die marker reverse was used on bunches of 09SVDB's Now, I'll add one more, look at the letters in GOD on the obverse, notice they're smeared and bloated. That's pretty common on the counterfeit 14-D's too.
Here is the link to the coin, look at some of the sellers sold listings and you'll see other counterfeits they've sold! https://www.ebay.com/itm/125183190446?hash=item1d257fe5ae:g:EYQAAOSwZ7BiIun~
The date and minkmark are way too strong compared to the portrait, especially at the top of the head. That goes along with the mushy "GOD"
we need more stringent laws on counterfeiters of coins and currency old and new. Chinese copys are flooding the markets and no one of power is doing a thing.
Yep! ebay pulled the listing. If you click an ebay link and get this message it means ebay took it down. The seller can end the listing, but they can't remove it. And gone is GOOD!
My first thought was GOD on the obverse. That pretty much stopped me until I read the opinions and realized the issue on the reverse was shown. A mistake I should not have made, haste makes waste. Great show-n-tell thank you.
When I first looked at this, the rims looked off and then I say a little chunk of metal on the mint mark that didn't look right. The whole thing was just "off" from what I had seen on other high circulated grade 1914-D cents I had seen.
I might have noticed if the photos had been posted FULL IMAGE. I know some using a phone or tablet, can't always post photos Full Image, but it sure makes it easier on us older folk with questionable eye sight.
@Bones-65 Just want to remind you that there is a large number of members that do not do links. I am one of them. Best to post full size images. This will increase the responses.
I typically post what ever size the seller posted in the listing, if its a high quality image, sometimes I can enlarge them some, other times I can't. Remember with I post images of coins on ebay listings they're not my images, sometime the images are REALLY bad, to even so BAD that I'll message the seller and request better more detailed images. I'll work to give the members here the best I can do with what I've got to work with Thanks for your input!
Here is some saved images of a 09SVDB with that same counterfeit die chip marker on the reverse. (this was on ebay 12-9-21) NOTE! Look at how close the got the designer initials to being correct?
This seller is trying to be a problem! The coin in the OP (original post) is BACK! Here is the link to the NEW listing! https://www.ebay.com/itm/125184031981?hash=item1d258cbced:g:kbIAAOSwQHhiI6VQ
