tHE BEST mACAU NOTE ISSUED i BELIVE WAS A 100 Pataca of 1976, only about 1million were made and hard to get. Macau should be upgrading there currency soon. The series 2003 Hk is the best series yet for HK.

Only those notes dated prior to the handover are of interest to collectors of British Commonwealth banknotes. The last colonial Hong Kong banknotes are dated the 1st of January 1997.

Most of the recent pre-1997 notes do not contain the Royal portrait anyway. I believe only the ones issued by the "Government of Hongkong" do,while the ones via the banks don't. The Bank of China only began issuing bills in Hong Kong in the 90s if memory serves right. There used to be only the Standard Charter Bank and the HSBC, which has been issuing bills since 1865. The oldest HSBC bill i have in my collection is the 1956 10$ bill.

The most recent Hong Kong bill in my collection that carries the Queen's portrait is a 1$ note with QEII from 1958. I have three very used 1$ notes that feature KG VI and KG V. Also I have 2 questionable bills (10c and 5c) with only one-sided printing that carries QEII's portrait.

    British Coat-of-Arms.

James, the British Coat-of-Arms appears on quite a few of the Hong Kong trading banks' notes, especially on the notes
issued by the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation (now HSBC).

Oh yeah, the 1980 large HSBC 10 dollar bill in my collection has the British COA above the "local scene" that is similar to the early colonial badge (before HK has her own COA). The HSBC ones from the 90s don't have any British reference except for the 500$ bill that shows the Government House. Of course this is a given for the then new Bank of China notes.

The HSBC $100 notes are the ones that have the British Coat-of-Arms on the front of the notes above a scene as well. The $100 notes are a reddish colour.

I've got a bunch of Jan. 1 1993 100's laying around. Unfortunately, they have folds in them. Does anyone know the U.S. value?
