I know this is not a coin, but It caught my interest. It's a religious medal of Mary that has the date 1820. Can anyone tell me how much it's worth? Thanks B12
I would almost bet the date on it is 1830 as I have quite a few of these exact medals some sterling and others that are not that have the 1830 date (this is not actually when they were made). If you are sure the date is 1820 let me know and I can talk to someone who I am sure will know. Ben
OK I will check with the "EXpert" I know and let you know. Here is a photo of one of the 1830 datyes I have.
Hi, Go To: http://www.amm.org/medal.htm for the info on the medal.. They are sold all over the place and are not at all unusual. They were not struck in 1830, there are not dated 1820. The 1830 date is commemorating the event described. Have Fun, Bill
OH!Ok. Thank's for telling me what the date meant Bill. One other thing. If 1830 was the earliest date, why do I have a 1820? B12
Hi, Simple, It's not a 2, take a closer look. If it looks like a 2, it's a damaged 3. They are all dated 1830, they are a souvenir sold today in every Christian shop in the country. Have Fun, Bill
I was also told it was probablly just a damaged date or even one some one altered on purpose. You can ussually pic them up for a couple of bucks if sterling there a little more.
Yea...you maybe right. It is kinda hard to tell. IF IT IS A 1820 would it be rare or worth anything? B12
To tell you the truth, I didn't look at the dates that carefully. But it was the same medal with an 1800s date. They had a box of small sterling religious medals and there were several of this type.
