Picked up $18.50 in loose halves today. All but 3 were common, but one teller gave me a trifecta. A 1964, 1950, 1944. That's right the same teller handed me a Walker, Franklin, and a 90% Kennedy all for $1.50! Then I was asking if they had any Ikes and another teller told me he kept all the Ikes. I guess I will pass on a few Ikes if he is willing to pass on silver at face.

Gypsy, way to break out of your slump with a whole roll of 90%!

    Halashton, NICE trifecta!!!!!!

I went through a box of halves today and found 3 40%ers. But, I just recently passed 500 silver halves found since I started on June 1. I'll soon open my 100th box and will post stats at that time.

Bob, can't wait to see your stats. An average of about 5 per box seems pretty good. I've done 9 boxes with only 19 silvers (16 in one box, 3 in another, 7 shut outs). I've got to get my average up!

Many of mine came from loose ones at the bank. I'll do my stats from the boxes, and also total. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

I'm getting two boxes today which will put me at about 99....

Right on Bob! I called prior to ask if the bank had any halves. The teller told me 20$ over the phone but when I went in they only had 10$. Mabey she opened one up and kept one roll? I am not complaining.

    100 boxes

I just passed 100 boxes last week so I will try to post totals tomorrow as well. I know I do not find as many 1964's as Bob nor do I drive around and find customer rolls as much so my totals will be lower. I tend to rely on my tellers nowadays. I was spending too much real time searching so I have cut back to pretty much my own town unless a teller calls me.

    Week

Forgot to mention this week's results. One box of dimes, nothing. One box of quarters, nothing. 5 boxes of halves yielded 6 40%'ers. Yesterday I called a bank and they said someone had turned in $450 worth of halves so I went to get them. They were in an open Brinks box that was short 5 rolls. Oddly enough, they were bank rolls instead of customer rolls. I guess someone bought them and then decided to cash them back in or did not need them. I found 33 40%'ers in the $450. And finally today, one of my tellers called and had 18 dirtyish 40%'ers if I wanted them.

Nothing that was 90% silver but overall 57 40% silver halves for the week.

If only that could be every week lol.

Preserve?.. Well, it's in a plastic case now in a cushion of foam and someday I'll have it graded.

It goes in a box and put away with the other thousands I have.

How do you get the tellers in your pocket? Why would the teller save silver for someone if they can get the premium for the coins?

I get to know the tellers and if they like coins I try to help them by giving them some of what they collect. I always give them new mint sets and birth year sets for them or there kids. I also start some coin folders and let them give them to the kids who come into the bank happy kids = happy parents = happy tellers. Also at the bank I got the quarters at only one teller saves silver and she saves halves and dollars. The rest just bought 1 or 2 rolls just to have. The ones who collect state and park quarters are given all the denver mint quarters for there collection.

It helps to keep a standing balance of a few thousand dollars in your checking/savings account as well.

    Tellers

I have 9 tellers/bankers that I know really well at a total of 8 different banks (One bank has 2). 6 of the banks are in my town and two in other towns. 3 of the tellers/bankers I have gotten to know over time including sending them birthday presents on their birthdays, and giving them freebies or random gifts etc. I work in a school and they want to be able to come into the school and build customers from the staff etc. So kind of a mutually beneficial relationship. Then, since I have been in education a while, 6 of the tellers/bankers are ex-students or kids I coached. A lot of kids in high school or recent graduates seem to work in the banks while they go to school.

When I started roll searching this summer, I used to run around like crazy looking for coins. Now I guess I am lazy in that I have my weekly orders and then I rely on my tellers to help me out. I really only go on a "bank run" outside my town about once every 3 weeks or so now.

Another example: Yesterday, One of the 3 non-students told me they had some coins for me they wanted to bring from home and give me. I was at the bank picking up a box when she stopped me on the way out to tell me her work schedule this week so I can come in and get them I do not know what or how many but she just said old silver coins. If it really happens, I will post. She said she has picked them up for her kids but they did not seem interested so she wanted to goive them to someone who wanted them.

Anyway, I guess that answers the question as far as my connections. Then you put their name and number in your cell phone so you know which one is calling you and you don't get their names wrong.

Hope to report early nest week..

    Awesome, Erin!

I searched two boxes of halves today, one a shutout, the other had 5 40%ers.

Oh, it also had a gold plated half stamped on the left side of the obverse "1960" and on the right, "1980"

I know it is some kind of novelty, but anyone know what? My son wanted it so I let him have it. The gold plating is very shiney....
