Not sure anyone is reading anything about coins for sale in print anymore. But I have seen quite an uptick in ads offering ANACS, ICG and even other long ago forgotten TPG coins. I've rarely encountered this in the past and it shows dealers are reaching out for anything they can get their hands on to offer to sell. I do understand there is a shortage. But there is a difference in pricing. PCGS & NGC are still selling for good prices whereas the other TPG offerings are quite heavily discounted. And this goes to show that there surely must be a lot of disappointed sellers to these coin shops. Has anyone here tried selling their slabbed ANACS and ICG coins and what are you being offered? Just thought I would mention it.

:yack::yack::yack::yack: That's hard for me to believe, so please post SEVERAL (more than four in this case) examples of HEAVILY DISCOUNTED (not details) ANACS or ICG coins :jawdrop: for sale in a PRINTED COIN PERIODICAL What other TPGS coins sell for is not helpful as much of the time they should be discounted! Thanks in advance. ;)

PS :D Everyone :bookworm::cigar: already knows that PCGS & NGC coins always sell for good prices in normal market conditions.

I spend a lot of time looking at graded world coins on the Bay and this has not been my experience. Yes, PCGS and NGC prices are generally higher, but ANACS and ICG prices aren't too shabby either. I wish I could find some of them "heavily discounted", but I'm just not seeing it . . . at least not for the coins I focus on. Your mileage may vary.

Awee gee, you'd have to ask. I guess I should have been more specific. I'm not really talking quality, hard to find coins, key dates and such. But there is some movement on the modern U.S. coins which seem to be a filler for print ads. I can't at the moment site specific ads but I do see modern proofs going for really cheap prices. I mean to say, if it costs on average $30.00 to slab a coin like a Lincoln cent or Jefferson nickel modern and it's for sale at $15.00, someone, somewhere lost money selling to the dealer. I don't want to bury myself here but that's what I'm referring to as discounted. In talking semi key and key coins I have seen where a NGC or PCGS coin will attract an increase of $50.00 or more per coin depending upon the coin, it's popularity, etc.. over and above the same exact coin and grade. I believe I did see some odds and ends appear in Jack Beymer's and Steven Musil's ads that are also ANACS and ICG that I have never seen either offer in the past. Sorry Skip, sometimes I have a hard time explaining things the way they should be.

On a couple of occasions I have purchased modern proofs in bulk from L&C coins, PCGS, in PF69 for around $5.00 each. Purchase was 20 coins for that price. They were Jeffs and Lincolns. But I intended them for resale at my price point and still a lot cheaper than anywhere else I have ever found them. As far as the really good stuff goes, no.

ANACS coins do okay at Great Collections but there's still a discount and some times a big discount on more expensive coins and moderns. They seem to do better than there elsewhere for whatever reason but there's still noticeable gaps with obviously cheap coins having the smallest gaps. Youll do better on there than with many or most dealers in person who wouldnt want it or want it at an extreme discount.

As for why you're seeing more probably two main reason. The first would be they can get them at a discount then try and sell for full price in person. The second would be PCGS has been swamped and slow and NGC has been unusable at one point taking to months just to open your package. It's not worth waiting 5 ir 6 months from NGC unless the gap is substantial, PCGS was running 2-3 months for the most part. As an example an 81-D 1c in 67 is like a 140-160 coin in PCGS and 90-110 in ANACS. Not every dealer thinks its worth it waiting an extra month or two for a small gap like that.

So it appears that PCGS is more conservative than ANACS on the higher grade Lincoln's OR what I've heard (is it true?) it just a case of identical coins at the same grade being worth more in the PCGS slab. Isn't that the case with virtually everything?

Likely some version of both, but PCGS obviously gets the most for moderns. There's solid sales data for it on GC and there's nothing wrong with it as long as someone isnt buying them trying to get PCGS prices for them.
