Was wondering what the Canadians were doing with their quarters. I have three weird quarters, which are pretty cool, from 1999 and 2000. I also have a centennial coin from Canada but that was easy to figure out what they were doing, celebrating 100 years of independance of course! Post a link if there is one.

sweet thanks! I though it would have to do with celebrating the new millenium but when I got the 1999 coin I was baffled. Thanks a ton! Only 21 more to go. Do you know if there is a booklet such as the statehood quarters?

Inventor1210,don't forget that there was that series of circulating commemorative 25c. coins that was issued in 1992 to commemorate 125 years of Canadian Confederation.Of course, there were other commemorative coins of other denominations that were put into circulation.

yeah, the coin ovals are more common for the 1999-2000 series. Many private manufaturers made them, but they are all imitation to the Royal Canadian Mint's official ovals that come with the sets. Each of the two official sets have a token included. A few mules have been reported on those medals. The tokens, however, are not circulated.

If you are looking for more of these quarters let me know. I have tons to swap.

Ok thanks but the link to the quarter info about the 1999-2000 quarters did not say what the theme for may 1999 quarter was. Any info on it?

The May 1999 25¢ represents the Voyageurs a variation on the image on so many of the siver dollar coins.

Once youve got them you can start collecting the other 22 circulation reverses for the 25c :p (46 in all, 44 special issue and 2 standard)

Skylark, that is a very nice coin. The Canadians were actually not the first country to issue a series of circulating 25c. coins for circulation. It was an idea first pioneered by Bermuda in 1984.The 25c. coins depict the Coats-of-Arms of all the Parishes.
