Seeing a lil green rim toning on the observe, but wondering how this thing got bid up so much... https://www.ebay.com/itm/304364749822?hash=item46dd8d83fe%3Ag%3Ay8oAAOSwPb1iEZac&LH_Auction=1&nma=true&si=rSPIDhaY%252FrUtdNFRn3CvhYn7rK0%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Thoughts?
However it was achieved, that's vastly more attractive than many of the monstrosities I've seen bid way up lately. I actually think it's a beautiful Morgan. Edit: Photos added to thread for posterity.
That rich, brown tone around the outside reminds me of the pork roast I made last night. Both because of the color, and because of the appliance used to prepare it.
Good call. This forum is an archive of coin discussions going back two decades, and Ebay links eventually die out, losing the pics forever if not archived.
Okay, though I'm a vegetarian I have to say that's the best & funniest toning commentary I've ever read.
Do words mean anything anymore?? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1889-P-MORGAN-SILVER-DOLLAR-MONSTER-TONER-208-/353934143071
This is the stuff that hurts my eyes. No idea how they do it, but I really wish they wouldn't. Yet people pay up for these monstrosities. These are the Chinese guys in SoCal who vend under a few different names on eBay.
When are these people going to learn to keep their Morgans away from their monsters? ESPECIALLY the fire-breathing dragons, and MOST especially the ones who like limburger, onion and baked-bean omelets.
Obviously AT, unfortunately things like this are pretty commonplace on ebay. Lots of ebay lurkers have big wallets and small brains. That's how many ebay sellers make a fortune. I recall seeing an eBay seller with almost 60k positive feedback selling heavily whizzed morgans that had been photoshopped. People bid up his auctions up to MS66 & up prices while buying a cull coin. This is just what happens when you have uneducated collectors pour into the market. Not only does it hurt the hobby in the long run, but it also cheats ethical dealers out of sales and puts money into pockets of people who use fraudulent tactics.
@Marsden - That AT Morgan dollar makes me want to puke. The OP coin is passible, but I since I don't understand the toner market, I'd be a hard pass at that price.
The question is, is this an MS 64 or better ? I say no. The breast feathers on the reverse look odd and lots of marks on reverse too.
Artificial toning and yes someone would overpay for something like that. Too bad it may have been a nice coin if it wasn't messed with.
Simple: Many simply go wild-nuts for toned coins, one way or another...and your example is the proof in the pudding.
Something looks "off" about this Morgan. Aside from the color, I mean. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-...ainbow-Toned-BEAUTIFUL-OLD-COIN-/175176542897 I actually sort of like the color, though I have my doubts about its legitimacy.
