Here a curious commemorative coin that I’d love some input on. I’ve done a little research and there seems to be disagreement as to whether the orange peel surface is the result of a planchet flaw or the result of some sort of acid treatment (PMD). I’d love to hear from the forum. Thanks!

Best guess: Someone tried to clean it and it got out of hand.

    I'll go with PMD.

Acid. It's all over the rim, too.

Looks like it was buried in the ground. The reverse has a hard scrape that is post pimple because there is none inside the scrape. Like it got hit digging it up. JMO.

Clarifying, it's a strong acid, like HCL or H2SO4. This ain't no vinegar job.

Or 40 - 50 years in the ground.

It's either a cast counterfeit, and a bad one, or it's been pickled in acid. Either way, it's not worth very much.

Certainly it wouldn't be a planchet flaw as during minting the devices should have smoothed out the surface, so I vote: Acid contact.
