Just to let you know, for some unknown ( to me ) reason my microscope lately is not showing the right colors as it should be. You can see this 1945 Nickel looks mostly green, but it is not green...it is a dark gray. I have been thinking of cleaning this nickel but because it's old, I'm not sure that I should...Meaning, I don't want to screw it up...But....It is very dark....If it was not under the light of the microscope, a lot of the details would be hard to see....What do you guys think?
Nothing wrong with the scope ,green and grey are close on an old coin as such. The reverse looks to have a bisecting die crack. From the rim under the U thoughtout the building the L and follows down I be willing to bet as the date and mm are known for this crack.
Try photos of another coin. I doubt it’s your set up. Gray and green are close in color, especially when applied to silver in a coin, and the eye of the camera is different than our eyes.
I was thinking the same as @alurid. If you pick another background color it might help setoff your coin better. And maybe 60-70 of all silver finds I had CRHing were that color. So everything is as it should be.
I've been thinking about a bath but wasn't sure which one to use.... Acetone...Thanks spirityoda ! I will give that a try.
If you are using the lights on the microscope it maybe causing a slight change. Try without it and see what you get. In the photos you posted, it looks like a normal War nickel to me.
