Hi all, how can I tell if 1943 cent I got is real deal, I got this from a roll of cents from bank, Is there a test where I could do to tell if copper?Anyways when I seen this cent my heart miss a few beats lol., here are a few pictures I took after I put in 2x2 flip. Carl :hammer:
Carl, There is actually a very simple test. Put a magnet to it, and if it sticks it's a steel cent that someone has plated. Jody
no, a magnet test simply use a magnet and if steel it will attract. coin was probably copper plated, still a nice find.... odds of being real ,million too 1
The odds are so slim that it's real. The magnet is probably the most simple test and will tell you very quickly. Personally, I think it will stick to a magnet, but I am a natural born cynic. and it likely makes me a better grader, LOL.
What are the odds? If memory serves me correctly, the last one was found ~1950. How many pennies have been made since then? Half a trillion? On the other hand, how many steelies have been coated with copper since 1950? I do not have a good answer for that, but I assure you that it is significantly more than 1943 coppers were made. The test is easy - a magnet.
Electro plated IMHO. Check out the thinning plate around "in God we trust" and also on the reverse around "O" in one.
Hi again , sorry about not doing reply last night had to go to work, did test with magnet and you guys where right it did stick to it well there goes my new boat. thanks for all the help,. Carl
You would have better odds of getting struck by lightning on a sunny day in a closet, under ground in a rubber suit - those are your odds.
It's a magicians coin....real for sure. Magicians had steel cents copper plated so they could use magnets to do tricks with them. If you wanted value for it, take it to a magic shop.
An aside... What's with 'thumbnail' photos, that when clicked are the same size as the thumbnail? Why label them as 'thumbnails' if that is the full size of the photo?
