Probably why I bought it years ago. It was in a box that I hadn’t opened from 2016. A nice looking 1921 Peace Dollar that looks like it’s in a 2x2 flip that’s sealed on all four sides in another plastic sleeve. A company known as ICCS, or International Coin Certification Service. In this case I bought the slab, not the coin. I don’t recommend this but I couldn’t resist. The price I paid is on the slab, $17.00 so that helped me do it. They graded it a MS-63 but I do think it should be a MS-64.
They are Canadian, in Toronto., right around the corner from Dave's Hot Chicken. there are no top tier graders in canada as far as I'm aware, but as far as canadian coins go, they are considered in the 2nd tier range comparable to the U.S. it's not an NGC or PCGS, but it's not a basement grader either. As far as Canadian coin collecting books and stuff, I mean, the PET sealed inside a flip, is like top notch coin preservation. most everything domestically produced for coin collecting is PVC and nasty stuff. I'm in South Florida, I wouldn't say I see a lot of them, but I've seen a few over the years, the canadian snowbirds winter down here and those turn up at the coin shops or pawn shops occasionally. it's kind of interesting they use the company embosser from incorporation and the nice linen paper for their certificates.
It’s a well put high tamper proof slab ad far as I can tell. Never felt they are/were a basement slabbed as I think the coin is under graded. To me, it’s a different type of slab. I don’t recall ever seeing one like this before.
It's not really a slab its just a flip that would be easier to open and reseal than a hard slab would be. David Hall used to use them before PCGS started. Canada is kind of a weird market and the TPGs using flips really kind of leaves them in the past
I've seen them several times on Instagram by some Canadian collectors I follow. I personally only own one ICCS holder, housing a mint state1900 Queen Victoria Maundy penny.
I have some ICCS graded coins as part of my Canadian sets inc a 1946-C Newfy 5c in VF20. They are a legitimate grading company for Canadian coins
