I have a 1880 Morgan S The second eight has the build up in the top half of the number and the bottom is clear. Under the first 8 and the 1 there is a double at the bottom almost like a shadow. All the stars on the left side are all doubled on the outside as well. I cannot find a comporable VAM that matches my coin. Has anyone seen one like this and what VAM number would it be?
A photo is necessary, especially with your descriptions of buildup, shadows, and doubling of stars. Shadows, outlines, especially of the date and stars, can be due to the visual separation of toning and on-toned areas. I am not sure what you mean by build up. If it is from the toning outlines, it is not a part of the VAM description. If it is truly doubling, and not machine doubling, then that could be. Jim
A pic is a must. Is the buildup inside the top loop of the second 8? If so there is a possiblity it's a VAM 8 or 9, which is a 80/79 overdate. Guy~
Morgan 1880 S The build up is in the top of the second eight. A coin dealer here in Arizona said it was definitely a double but the questioning is all the stars on the left side, the front of the face having the same doubling feature as that below the 1 and the first 8. I will get some pictures but who do I send them to?
Almost every 1880 S variety has doubling on the date, so pics will help. Depending on what vam it is, and what condition it's in it may be worth getting attributed and graded.
