Any members going to the National Money Show coming up in Colorado Springs in March? I live about three hours away and am considering driving down for the bourse. When I looked at the dealer map there were far fewer dealers than I thought, though. If you have been to past shows is this one typically mostly high end merchandise or is there a mix for collectors at all levels? Mike
The NMS that the ANA sponsors each Winter usually has around 250 dealers. While there will be a handful of national dealers, most will be regional and local dealers. Tables are expensive and this time the host hotel is already sold out. There are several other options within 2-4 miles. I didn't see anything about parking. This show will be an excellent chance to view many treasures. If you are planning on making a purchase, bring cash. Checks are accepted if someone can vouch for you. Credit cards are a maybe at best. If the dealer accepts CC, then be prepared to pony up an extra 5% for that convenience. Go on Thursday and/or Friday. The show will lose over half of the dealers by 12-1 pm. on Saturday. Admission is $10, not sure if that is daily or the entire event. MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED. Take a couple of hours and visit the headquarters. The museum is really nice. Go have fun and report back to those of us who are unable to attend. There will be a wide range of coins to choose from. More info :https://money.org/NationalMoneyShow
Nope, the altitude gives me problems. I found that I can either walk or talk but not do both at the same time at that altitude. Plus I'm headed for the EAC Conference in St. Louis in May.
@kanga When I went to the ANA Denver show in 2007, I had the same issues. Colorado Springs is another 1000 feet in elevation. Discussed this with my GP and got the issue resolved with a very mild BP med that I no longer take. Went back again in 2017 and no issues. Have a great time at the EAC Conference. Treasures everywhere. Bucket list item for me, a VG 1799 cent.
A straight grade VG 1799 cent is close to $10k. My bucket list is limited to items I can reasonably expect to afford. Top of my bucket list at the moment is a VF Fugio cent. Coming in second is an 1811 half cent C-1 variety early die state, i.e., no cud and maybe even no die crack. I've got one with the 4-star cud. The one with a 2-star cud is out of my price range.
If only I was close enough, I probably would. I think three hours would be okay and wear a mask while there.
Here's a thorough report about my visit today with TONS of photos and an opportunity to live vicariously through eclectic me for those who can't make it Here's a copy of what I just posted in another forum... I don't know where to begin, it's been about 3 years since I've been to a show and it was fantastic! It was a chilly but beautiful day to drive to the Springs. I am an extremely eclectic collector and tend to make many small collections, which should provide a nice variety of photos...Warning, I'm a photographer and I took many!!! I went with zero agenda about which coins to look for other than things which surprise me and coins I'm not expecting to see. I ended up choosing about 3 coins I'm considering buying tomorrow. I'm going early so I can bring some things to submit at the PCGS table! I met some folks I know and have met over the years and I met brand new friends too I decided to bring a few special rare Broncos coins to gift a few random beautiful people...That worked out well lol! Had an amazing and enlightening conversation with Brian Herriot about Condor Tokens www.druidscache.com . He was so generous with the information and enthusiastic and I am in love with the Jewish cabbage coin lol! I went back just before I left and gifted him one of my Broncos coins Was super excited to have a wonderful and touching conversation with Jeff Shevlin of the So-Called Guy www.so-calleddollar.com . Not only did I get a fantastic lesson on a topic I know little about, but also checked out their beautiful books! Their newest limited edition comes with a Daniel Carr coin embedded in the cover! I of course got to meet Bill Hyder too. I had hilariously great timing at Temchack Auctions table with Jay www.temchackauction.com as he had just bough a couple 1974 penny rolls from some guy and so we spoke at length about rolls and customer service things lol! Anyway...he had bought the two rolls as I walked up...long story short, he made an on the spot 25% profit and I bought those two rolls from him immediately Then I bumped into Don Kagin walking around showing off a beautiful gold round, you can spot a photo of that moment in my too. We had a quick conversation about very old coin rolls, S-VDBs lol! Later I got to have a couple minutes of warm conversation with Candace Kagin at their table about her childhood love of coins and some other things...just great. I went back later and gave Don one of my Broncos coins I met a nice young man named Payton Lindeman (and his younger brother) running an online dealership (and they are doing quite well with their Instagram selling as well!) and they are here in Denver! His Instagram is Classickidcoins. Got to get a minute with Jeff Garrett and basically tell him it was sweet to see him again and that he actually met me so many years ago I wasn't an adult yet lol. Told him I didn't want to embarrass either one of us by telling him how many decades ago I met him lol. Struck up a really fun conversation with a nice fella named Ryan with Sarasota Numismatics www.sarasotanumismatics.com and we spoke about a variety of things...he came across in such a wonderful way when we were talking about the coin communities online and how altruistic and generous the entire bunch tends to be. So I decided he needed to leave Colorado with a Broncos coin too Got to David Lisot's table just as he was coming back and full disclosure, he's been one of my odd heros since I was teen going to Long Beach in the first years of the expo. He's just so honest in his approach and I love it. I deliberately looked for David because I wanted to remind him we've met a couple times over the decades and that it was an honor to chat with him again...but I actually planned on giving him one my Broncos coins. We got to speak a bit about our YouTube channels and coin vids for a couple minutes. He didn't know I was there to give him this coin gift from the heart when I introduced myself and after a moment he asked me if I had any "cool coins"?! Oh my gosh...David had no idea lol! And how excited was I to be asked to be interviewed for his ANA Cool Coins videos!!!? David interviewed me and I told a bit of info about the Broncos coins I had brought and showed them. Then at the end of interviewing me I presented him with the coin I was speaking about. Just beautiful, that was a highlight for me and then some! I know I'm leaving some stuff out but it was great to meet a couple local coin business I wasn't aware of and explore and learn and discover for hours...I needed that. I took MANY PHOTOS so it'll take a handful of posts! (10 image limit per post)
Thanks for the thorough report and pictures! I enjoyed the show. I also met Payton, very nice guy and so good to see new blood enthusiastic about coins.
Nice coverage and photos. Thanks for the post. Excuse my ignorance, but not being a sports fan, is the Bronco coins you are referring to, those of the Bronco Team? Photos would be appreciated.
