I guess it depends on what you collect. I have about 400 normal circulating spread over 130 years and agree they are mostly bland.
    On the other hand....

They're keeping it simple for the most part. Maybe a good thing. Maybe they don't argue about designs as much as we do about ours. A lot easier just chugging a tankard of ale.

You're not all wrong, @John Anthony, though perhaps modern Norwegian coins could have been the caveat. And those, in their context as modern coins, can be appealing in a sparse, minimalistic way.

I own only two Norwegian coins, and I like both of them a lot.

They just won more of these than any other country on earth. Not bad for a nation with just over 5 million people..

I like those mooses meese meece moose coins. (PS- and that's a nice satiny Gem example.)

(Wait, it's a reindeer, isn't it? Eh. Whatever. LOL)

Say, isn't there a small minor with a cute squirrel on it? I like those, too.

Well, Noway was in union with Sweden from what, 1815 to 1905 or so?
That limits their coinage a bit.
Here's a pre-union 2 Skilling Courant 1810 of Frederik VI. I liked it at least.

I don't think many people on this forum would tout US coinage as a benchmark of design creativity. Doesn't mean they can't be critical of other nations' coinage.

I think Switzerland get the prize for least inspiring. I quite like the Norwegians. :)

As for being bland or uninteresting, I see your point. Sort of like the Wyoming quarter, they missed a chance to add a lot of detail to make the design "pop."

I AGREE! Modern coins from Sweden/ Norway/ Denmark are boring/ bland. However the coinage struck before 1914 was way nicer/ but that goes for most coinage.
