Recent acquisition. There is green around the devices in the area I've circled. The picture is pretty representative of what this looks like in hand. It's this pvc residue? Haven't had a coin like this before. If it's pvc, does a soak in acetone get it off? I don't care about the anacs holder. I realize it would have to be cracked out to do that.
Ouch looks like it to me and the damage has been done, not sure if acetone will help but might be worth a try.
Good question and I like your approach. Not knowing what you have into it, this looks to be about $100 coin. Cracking it to attempt to conserve it changes the prospect on a future sale (no longer in the slab) so in a flip or airtite, you will probably yield less. Any profit, if that's your thing, might be gone. But you might conserve a coin.
You might sell the coin and invest the sale in same date better condition. I personally would not crack it. IMPO
It's possible it is, but I have my doubts. I say that because typically a TPG will not slab a coin that they think has PVC residue on it. And since it's certainly not hard to see, apparently they didn't think it was PVC residue. It looks to me like at some point long ago some kind of liquid got onto the coin and what you're seeing is discoloration caused by its remnants. And not just the green, but the spotting as well. I think the green is just the result of more of it in those areas. Could I be wrong ? Sure, but I could be right too. But whatever it is, yeah, I think you could get it off easily enough with proper cleaning. But I doubt it'll help the looks of the coin much.
