    The date is odd because the 9 was punched into the die too high… this is called the “Fallen 4” variety (S-63).

    Looks like a metal detector find.

    It looks OK to me on the authenticity front (not that I'm an EAC guy or expert), but it looks pretty bad on the preservation front, obviously.

    @potty dollar 1878 perhaps it would be helpful to read through Marshall's "Attribute This" thread (starting from the first page) to learn more about early copper and all the variation that can occur on it. Most coins on the thread are in low grades. Most of what I know about EAC, I honestly learned from that thread.

    100% genuine and 100% ugly (but I own worse).

    As mentioned, S-63 variety. This variety is one of the top 10 most frequent 1794 varieties I encounter, a list which also includes: S-22, S-24, S-30, S-31, S-32, S-43, S-44, S-57, and S-65

    I hope the buyer uses a way to arrest the green corrosion. It looks like it’s still active.
