    (now in the @kazuma78 collection)

Seleukid Kingdom, silver tetradrachm of Philip I Philadelphos, ca. 94 - 83 or 75 B.C.

    (now in the @Aethelred collection)

England (Anglo-Saxon): silver penny of Aethelred II (978-1016 AD), struck ca. 997-1003 AD
(now in the @Aethelred collection- I got it from him and later resold it back to him, as a favor. I owed him money. *sigh*. I really miss this one.)

England: silver sixpence of William III, 1697

France: silver jeton of Louis XV, "Aurora in cloud chariot", undated (ca. 1740)

Spain: gold half-escudo of Ferdinand VI, 1759-JB, Madrid mint
    [IMG]

Great Britain (Chichester, Sussex): copper Conder token ("Chichester Halfpenny"), 1794
    [IMG]

France: bronze essai (5-centimes pattern by Barre) of Louis Phillipe I, 1840
    (gift from @kazuma78)

(It "pops" better at an angle.)

France: copper specimen striking of a 10-centime pattern (essai), 1848

Impurities in the blank, and the toning normally follows the impurity flow

That's what I was thinking. The pattern is similar to US cents that have a wood-grained look because of an uneven alloy mix, but the colors are psychedelic. Great find!

I just realized that every one of the coins I posted above are “bygones” except for the Conder token. Oh well.

Most of the interesting toners in my present collection are US coins.

I have this Malta Proof Set. Just one coin has toned and it has remained blast white on the reverse.
