Why did the 2021 D shoot up so high in value?

Yeah it’s pretty lame. I only paid for it because I knew it was good for the extras I was selling to pay for my personal set.

So basically I got a full set of 70s for free.

The price could drop to $1 each and I’d still technically not lose anything xD

The Market will determine popularity and price. Today, tomorrow or next year, etc.

    Its not just 1 coin....the 50 D just 1 example , the 37 D 3 legger buffalo, is another example...
And I could list more...the people making these off the chart purchases are absolutely clueless.
They have no idea...its like crowd mentality just going along as they think its a good idea... and history has documented many time...thats a bad choice...just like paying $ 500 for < an oz of pure silver.

The market today is over inflated by hype and demand....and will tank.
Just like the hot item now a 1921 Peace dollar...prices are artificialy priced and will fall after all the hype smoke clears...I have dealers asking me for 21 peace dollars....or if I know of any....it just like the childhood game of hot potato dont get caught on the down hill run.

But the reason 1921 Peace Dollars is popular because it’s 100 year anniversary in 2021 so people wanted 1921 Morgans & Peace Dollars.

Many people paired all this with the 2021 Morgans & Peace dollars.

I'm waiting to see if the 1921 Peace prices fall back now that the anniversary has passed.

I didn't notice a spike in 1921 Morgan prices, but then again, I wasn't looking.

I think they’ll dip a bit but not return to where they were before solely due to people wanting to pair them with the 2021 stuff.

And a year from now....the smoke will clear...and those who over paid will be holding the hot potato.

Could be. That does not change my position, because it will still be the Market determining popularity and price today, tomorrow or next year, etc.

The trend today is for shinney, mirror like coins. Not coins that look like they were set out to do financial business in the USA. Making all the coins shinney has caused other problems. How many people complain about the milky stains on coins? If they were just the old-fashioned proof strike these conditions would be less likely. But it is not about beautiful, well stuck coins. It is all about which gets the higher grade so that we can say...mine is better than yours.

Will be.! ....been doing this as well being in retail and wholesale business for 55 years and very aware of what will fly and what will crash and burn.
Come back 2 /16/23 and we will revisit this and see how much value these held.

They have never woke up to the fact that paying extra for a forward seat in a plane will not get you there before everyone else on the same plane.

Usually people pay that extra for the extra leg room ;).

However some people pay for priority boarding! As if someone boarding the plane earlier will get them there sooner.

I always board last so I don’t sit in a cramped plane for 45 mins on the ground. I can stretch my legs in the airport.

The reason the 2021 D Morgan is so high in MS70 is that Denver didn't do so well as the other mints in their QC. Thus, not as many recieved MS70 grade. If you look at the 2021 D morgans in lower grade, you will see prices that are pretty much the same as the other 2021 morgans.

What truly frost my cookies is the damage done to the hobby! I have no issue with free enterprise, hell I've been selling stuff since a kid...to make money. Worked retail food for 40 years, worked for the Irish Dairy board, and another well known meat packer, and gourmet food company and sales and customer service was job 1.
My issue is the damage it does to the hobby.
We are on a thin edge to begin with going the way of stamp collecting.
With crypto currency, the talk about stop minting the penny, and you may as add halfs and dollar coins too as they are useless in todays retails stores. Credit card useage, the fact that quite a number of people have no desire to handle cash durring a pandemic .
Then add to that a person who did have an interest in coins , now feels defeated in putting together a set only to have its value tank.
I love to make money.... I've done so for myself, family and companies that I have worked for...
However I've never misrepresented by hype or otherwise values....items for sale.
I get it flip.. the coin make some money and I get mine for free....well yes you made out,but the hobby suffers...and again I like money ...but not enough to be apart of hurting a hobby that for the last 60 years has been my passion....and have enjoyed so much.
Yeah I get it....free enterprise...in my years if nothing else that I can share with you is this...nothing is "free" it all has a cost....you may not realize at the time.

To be fair there are a lot of good arguments for cancelling the Penny.

It costs more to make them than the face value.

When the 1/2 Penny was cancelled it had a modern day value of 18 cents today.

Mostly the only reason it’s still around is tradition.

No the only reason its around is Congress no mater what party in power. Its senless goverment.
The Federal Reserve bank of Richmond Baltimore branch vault is packed with bags and bags of dollar coins....why no one wants them....and Congress still minting them.
The cost to mint and store then cost more than they are worth....

And again not a political shot at either party as both are at fault.
Years ago the government paid dairy farmers for milk and cheese....to produce or dump their products.
Then all of a sudden ....theres millions of tons of American cheese thats value was less than the cost to store it.....so now what?
Oh we will distribute it to the poor....once again for ever action theres a reaction...and that mess with the surplus dairy products was a complete cluster.
Retail stores always placed a change order with their bank weekly to cover the stores needs.
Those orders went from boxes to rolls ,as again there more eletronic transaction than cash....and thats is only goingbto increase over the next decade.
Cents, halves, and actually dollar notes need to be done away with....as a collector does this upset me YES very much so...but again it needs to be done for many reasons.
I give brick and mortar food store and other retailers less than a decade to remain open as a retail operation.
Cost of operations, workers, rent, utilities, etc....and the fact I can end this here and now, and go order a standing crown rib roast for dinner tonight....and I need not move from my chair.

Hmmm. I dunno, I think there is upwards potential for the 2021 ASE RP designer edition set, bought for $175, sells for $200-225, it's not there yet, I think by the time it came out, most people were just done for the year from the silver eagles and the morgan and peace dollar offerings.

However, I think down the road, that last RP type 1 and first RP type 2 could become in demand.. yeah, PR70 being PR70, there's going to be a mark up there, but I'm not sure I like the gamble on grading two coins that cost $175, for the potential $350-500 sale if PR70 comes back... PR69s for both get you right back in the $200-$225 range except out the grading fees.

my opinion too early to tell, it wasn't that "hot" for whatever the reason and kind of just slipped past the hoard of flippers ect. but it could be a sleeper that wakes up a decade from now as people carry on with silver eagle sets and they are more type 2s to collect.

the 2020W V75 silver eagle was a big winner, even bigger was the 2019S Enhanced Reverse proof, even still. Of course the 2019W ERP from the Pride of 2 nations set, is still sitting right where it was, not gaining or losing from mint issue price.

Yeah if those D morgans didn't grade out as well as the others, possible the prices will increase. when it comes to "sets" in top grade, the worst one will set the limit on how many perfect sets are possible to make and be the one in short supply.

Also have to consider the current economic climate, money is cheap, it's everywhere, and will be until it's nowhere, but people are throwing it around like it's valueless. I'm not going to get into the "whys" of this, we all see it, and we know why.

Somethings fishy when a bank is buying houses in my neighborhood and paying 50K over market prices or asking prices, and they are getting counters from big spenders on top of that looking to buy up properties at any cost with their dollars.

Reminds me of near 2 years ago, everyone making home improvements and it struck me, everyone around me took equity loans/ 2nd mortgages to get over the hump and fixed up their properties over the shutdowns instead of working. I was scratching my head until I figured out what the heck was really going on. gonna be a lot of idle investment properties being held, and people roped into paying the rest of their lives for overpriced houses if they can manage to buy, and then someone, again, will get stuck holding the bag, but again, money is cheap, they are just giving trillions away each year.
end of rant. Just going to say, ride things out see how it all goes, and don't get caught holding the hot potato whatever that potato may be, and if you do, hopefully its a small potato and only your finger gets burned.

personally I'd prefer as many nice old Morgans as $500 could buy rather than a 2021D one slabbed, but that's me.

Yeah, probably Mike over at Home Shopping is the biggest buyer.
You just know they will have the "1921-2021 sets" for sale, I don't even have to check the show! I bet that's where the demand for the 1921s is coming from.
