Nope, it is genuine. It has been in my pocket since I freed it from the capsule it came in from the mint.

I was wanting to see the wear pattern of one of these new Morgans. This is where I am at since October of 2021.

This being .999 will wear and abrade more noticeably.

the coin had some issues directly from the mint out of the three I got. Kept the two nicer ones and decided to experiment with this one.

Call me weird but I like it.

I was excited for the 2021 dollars until I learned that they would not be true to the original .900 fine composition. They also just look wrong to me with a matte white frost covering the whole coin - fields and all. That's fine for things like Silver Eagles, they've always been that way. I originally expected these to be true to the originals, showing the natural flow lines and cartwheel luster typical of freshly-struck Morgans. The fake mint marks are another thing.

Basically, (and this is my opinion) this is not really a Morgan dollar as much as a commemorative tribute to the design, so I haven't bought any.

This particular one actually looks "right" to me with some wear on it. I look forward to seeing some of these with a few years' pocket wear on them.

Totally not weird. I have the same thought. I am an avid Morgan collector having assembled the 117 coin set. These coins could have been better. Thus I felt this was more of a bullion coin. Just an expensive experiment and curious to see how it develops over the years.

Love it! And this also tells me that I need to turn down the sensitivity on my "fake-dar".

I've wanted to do the same thing with a gold Kennedy, but the single example I own has no problems other than a copper spot or two, and I just can't bring myself to inflict damage on it. I'm still hoping someday I'll come across an example with problems, selling at a discount, and then I'll see whether I have the guts to carry a $1K+ coin in my pocket. (Been carrying an ASE that way for six or seven years now, and haven't lost THAT yet...)

I have a few pocket coins the one pictured then a 1904 O and an ASE. I have always wondered how a coin carried in a pocket would age. A lot of people would say it was cleaned, but other than sliding around in my pocket it hasn’t been cleaned. Anywho here are a few of my prize Morgans that I would never desecrate like this 2021 lol.

Rub that baby hard. I'm already 67 and might not be around to see the end of this experiment.
