Hello all, I need some expertise here with this 2000 D penny. I was CRH and came across this unique looking penny. This is a first for me. I was wondering if anyone else has ever come across something like this. Or can shed some light on it for me. Thanks in advance 20220212_221308.jpg 20220212_221336.jpg

There are many anomalies on zincolns but very few errors of value. Your coin shows well but no errors, sorry. Keep searching and posting thanks for sharing.

Now do you see the difference?the copper plating has been stripped off in a un-natural way leaving the zinc core. Screenshot_20220213-142649_Chrome.jpg Screenshot_20220213-142716_Google.jpg

It still looks too dirty to be zinc. I guess you could be correct in that the copper has been stripped away and if so, they didn’t remove all of it.

It would help if you could word a question asking what you think is unusual about it. Is the photo color correct? If it is silver colored, it has been subjected to chemicals to make it that way and in no way a mint error. Does that answer your question?

Questions should always be specific. If you think you see something, spell it out, don't leave us guessing. The colour is off as @Mountain Man said, but we can't really tell much other than it is a cent that has been compromised (damaged), post mint.

As already noted, this is a stripped cent, copper removed. My guess is that unless un-plated cents are immediately removed from circulation that the environmental effects would have a disastrous effect on the coin after only a few years in circulation. Something like this to last 20 years in circulation seems implausible to me. So perhaps, a more recent 'science experiment' in hand.

Many things can cause discolorations with coins.
This one was done with heat.

Another possibility to why the penny featured in this thread is silver in color.
