Good evening, I compared this coin to Wexlers examples of zinc doubled die and still having trouble. Some of the lettering and date I see ddo and others I see MD. Or am I wrong again?...lol Thanks again
The glare is making it hard to see but from what I can ascertain, it looks like a normal cent. Better pics might help confirm though.
Extra thickness that’s what you wanna look for. great close up pics What ur seeing is lighting issues and and a bit of die deterioration. Below are two mini helpful pamphlets on doubling what to look for and common issues. Next the 2018 date is what MD looks like I see a lot of the time lighting issues and Die deterioration is labeled as MD but u don’t see MD as often on shields as you’d think
I see this doubling quite often on these shield cents. They aren't enough for me to try and verify as a doubled die. no real extra thickness. Even though a few seem to have a seperation line the notching oesn't look like your common Doubled Die. I throw them into a roll if they are MS.
It looks good to me. There is some MD, yes, but on the date '2021' it looks like it shifted down and right - you can see the split serifs on the bottom left of the two's and the 1. There are a few die chips as well, like the one at the apex of the 2nd two, but it is unrelated to the doubling. The MD though is also very prevalent but can be distinguished from true doubling. The mintmark has tons of it, and there is also some MD visible on "Liberty". I'm going to say yes, its a DDO. (I could be proven wrong though)
It’s not a ddo The spilt serifs in this are from lighting if its moved around under the scope you’ll see that disappear. On shield cents you won’t see ONLY spilt serifs to make a doubled die. It has to be accompanied by extra thickness which isn’t present in OPs pics or distortion which is not seen at all Normal 2021 D penny, plus the Denver mint shields not many doubled dies known anyways really only doubled ear lobes. Here’s a 2010 D doubled die listed on coppercoins.com Distortion on date and extra thickness on erty.
That’s die deterioration and lighting making it looked like a doubled die A doubled die on a shield cent will never have doubled letters like class 1 doubled dies it’ll always be extra thickness and notching which is not seen here
Yea lights exactly and on a Denver minted cent very unlikely for doubled dies involving the motto and other devices. For the most part all the doubled dies that are known are on the earlobe. philly cents have all the great doubled dies. Confirming doubled dies on Philly cents extra thickness distortion (upper right or left of Y in liberty thicker Then the other) notching with extra thickness etc I posted me mini articles on top It’s easy to confirm when u know what ur looking for again most people hear doubled die they think of class 1 immediately the doubled dies 2010 and on need a fresh set of eyes new generation of doubling.
