Hi This small bronze 14mm 7.31 gram coin has captured my imagination. I don't as yet have any Alexander The Great coin reference books and can't seem to find out much about the coin online. Is there a good website for Alexander the great coins? Any help me would be amazing! Struck at Macedonia mint 332-323 B.C. Reference: Sear 6739 var.; Price 284
You should be able to find your coin using this website: http://numismatics.org/pella/. The grapes below the club on the reverse are the control mark that will allow you to distinguish your coin from a large number of very similar issues struck for Alexander at different mints. For illustration, here are two Alexander AE units from my collection. They look very similar but bear different legends and control marks that allow to roughly date them and give a general mint location: Alexander III “the Great,” Kingdom of Macedonia, AE unit, 336–323 BC, unknown Macedonian mint. Obv: head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev: AΛEXANΔΡOY, between club and quiver with bow; below, dolphin (mostly off flan). 16.5mm, 5.50g. Ref: Price 323. Alexander III “the Great” (postumous issue), Kingdom of Macedonia, AE unit, 323–310 BC, unknown mint in Asia Minor. Obv: head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ, between club and quiver with bow; below, torch (countermarked). 20.5mm, 5.65g. Ref: Price 2800.
You already have the catalog number (Price 284), so you are just about home. Just search "Price 284" (in quotes). If you get too many off-topic results, add Alexander or AE (for bronze). I also tried entering this in acsearch.info and found These Other Examples. Nice con, BTW.

Thanks Edessa It was great to see these coins displayed on one website. Really makes you appreciate the subtle differences in stlye. It also helped me to build up my visual library of Alexander coin images. Thank you
Thanks for sharing your coins Alegandron. I love how each of the coins has a very different look and I would guess feel to them. Very powerful portraits of Alexander III. Thanks again
Thank you for your practical comments and encouragement gsimonel. It's much appreciated. Glad to hear you like the coin too!
Thank you Orielensis I have never heard of control marks before. To me that's a very interesting and artistic way of distinguishing between the coins. Those are very elegant coins that you have shared. I particularly like the second coin with its beautifully dark patina, wonderfully detailed and flowing lion skin headdress and it even has a countermark too! Which totally adds to the coin in my opinion. Very nice indeed. Cheers
