Nice owl! Your coin looks like a pi-style V owl. Good centering, especially the reverse.

Wax is a very old method used to fill in holes.

I once had a 1 1/2 broad thaler, 1672, that had a hole at 12 o'clock filled with silver wax. It is a much cheaper way to fill in hole compared to silver solder, which requires experience and skill, especially if a design element needs to be reconstructed in a convincing way.

Actually, your owl might be a pi-style II. The outer tendrils flair way from the central tendril, a characteristic of the II style palmette. At the same time it is quite large. On the reverse, the owl is quite close in some ways to the one shown on the NumisWiki page. Could your owl be a kind of transitional type?

If you look at the illustrations of the palmette ends for III and later, the outer tendrils seem to run parallel to the central tendril, whose length and size varies.

Thank you so much @robinjojo for taking the time to read my attribution, looking at the coin and letting me know. I appreciate it very much:happy: Corrections are most welcome.

Yes, you are right, it definitely looks like Pi-Style II.

The name "transitional" seems to be used confusingly (http://rg.ancients.info/owls/): "Intermediate Style Owls, also called Late Classical Owls, Hellenistic Owls, or (confusingly) Transitional Owls, retain the same basic Athena and owl iconography as the previous Classical Owls, though changes were made. "

maybe it is better to attribute my owl as type "Intermediate Pi-Style II

More of the Alegandron Athens Owl Tetradrachmae Hoard.

I dug it up off the coast of Lake Michigan in WI. Amazing how far the Athenians traded.
