I was looking through my change from the store this morning and saw this. First thing I noticed was it was a D.C. note and not the usual F.W. notes around here. Second thing I noticed was the backplate number was much smaller than the 2017A series. I've heard about mule notes with 40% smaller backplate numbers but couldn't find anything on the 2017 series. I probably just need to do a little more research but it's turning into a busy day (I've been working on this post for 45min now...). So here's the question, lol. Is this a keeper or just a series design change before the "A" or even maybe just unique to the D.C. BEP notes which are very rare to see around here? P.S. 1 hour and 18 min to make this post. Very busy day... Apologies in advance for any slow replies. Update: A guy at work has a 2017 series from the F.W. BEP, not an "A" series either, and the backplate number is much bigger. Updated Update: There's another guy at work that got a series 2017 D.C. note in change yesterday with the smaller backplate number so I'm guessing it's just a D.C. BEP design deference from the F.W. notes?..
The 2017 Atlanta $1 note you posted was among the first notes printed on the series. I would expect it to have a low BP number. As plates are used and worn, they are replaced with new, higher numbered plates. Very typical.
Ok, thanks Jim. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that FW back plate numbers are always a bit larger than DC back plate numbers.
Thanks for the info. I don't see a lot of D.C. notes around my area probably since I'm so close to Fort Worth. I thought I was getting old at first when I could barely read the backplate number. Lol
I finally got a little time to do some research and it is a design difference between the two BEP facilities. (Screenshot from webpage) (Source link) http://www.uspapermoney.info/general/note.html
